The NRA is a con

One problem with your analysis, the whole pretense of a well regulated militia, armed citizens was to deter the overreach of the federal government not protection from outside threats.

In addition the right to defend oneself, armed defense being seen as a basic right, stemmed from their roots based in English common law. The King as well as the English Church tried on several occasions to disarm the population.

Written in the constitution is the means to amend it. Knock yourself out.

In the mean time, if you don’t own a weapon, you should buy one. If the Left has their way there won’t be much left in the way of law enforcement to deter crime.

NRA leader Wayne LaPierre under investigation for tax fraud
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/n...under-investigation-for-tax-fraud-11601925611

The Internal Revenue Service is investigating longtime National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre for possible criminal tax fraud related to his personal taxes, according to people familiar with the matter.

LaPierre was paid $2.2 million by the NRA in 2018, the most recent year available, the nonprofit group’s public filings show. His total reported pay from 2014 to 2018 was $11.2 million.

In August, he was charged in a civil suit by New York Attorney General Letitia James with taking millions of dollars of allegedly undisclosed compensation from the NRA and its vendors, in the form of free yacht trips, private jet flights for his family, exotic safaris and other benefits.

Asked at a news conference announcing the lawsuit whether she believed LaPierre had evaded personal taxes, James declined to comment but said she was referring the matter to the IRS.

he AG lawsuit claimed the NRA’s failure to include certain personal benefits in LaPierre’s W-2 annual-compensation forms “permitted him to file false personal tax returns with the IRS.”

An attorney for LaPierre had no immediate comment.

Membership dues at NRA fell 33% last year; group cut outreach, legislative lobbying
https://justthenews.com/politics-po...-year-group-cut-outreach-legislative-lobbying

Membership dues at the National Rifle Association plummeted by over a third last year, even before the company was hit by a state lawsuit in New York this year alleging major financial scandals.

The company's 2019 annual report, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, shows the group's members' dues falling from about $170,400,000 in 2018 to around $113,000,000 in 2019.

During the same year, investments in "legislative programs" dropped by about $20,000,000, while expenses in "member services and acquisitions" fell by about $15,000,000. Similar drops were seen in other expense areas across the board.
