There are some people, who buy assets cheap off of people jumping ship when they
thought it was the Titanic. Those who did well during the gold rush, were the merchants selling shovels, pans, picks, sluice boxes, and groceries to the would-be gold lookers.
I say, store up your cash, and look for distressed properties, markets, businesses, or other assets when things are burning.
In the meantime, trade what you see.
