Is it b/c some people have very narrow perspective of the world?

That must come into account, some people are less curious than others, and if someone lives in a wealthy scene this is what they will relate to mostly.
But same goes for the people who live in a needy scene.
From experience narrow perspective of the world is a worse problem among lower rungs of society, who travel less and can only wild guess what's happening over a few hundred miles from their house - if they care for it at all. One would think studies and medias would help but sometimes it's clearly not enough.
When it comes to money, those who don't have much of it seem unable to understand how it works . Raising poor kids is worse imo than raising moderately well off kids who feel poor.
Also it's usually easier for rich kids or adults to get insight into lower rungs of the economic sphere than the other way around, it makes for a more saleable catchline to write about a well off chinese teen disconnected from the wider world , but it's very easy to hear aberrations in more modest scenes.
