I never comprehended why prosecutors of white-collar crime aim to settle suits for money. That should not ever exist unless their job description was parking meter attendant. Paying a fine is not a deterrent when the stakes are so high and money can be made so easily for some with just enough criminal energy. Next, why are prison sentences so short for white collar crime? Why are they treated differently from drug traffickers? The harm to society is in many ways more wide spread. A drug dealer generally harms people in a close radius, most of whom made the decision themselves to hurt themselves. White collar crime in regards to insider trading essentially steals from future shareholders and buy-side and retirement funds, who in turn generate lower returns for pretty much anyone investing in their retirement.
