I saw a whole generation of families destroyed by welfare. I played in a band where I was the only white member. Every single one of the other members wives were on welfare. That was their job, to have babies. Usually by many different men.but they are not expensive if you are a welfare mom and judgement proof. Then they are essential to making ends meet and qualifying for medicaid if you happen to live in a State that did not expand medicaid.
I was a big family guy, and the only one in the band who owned a car. I would try to encourage the men to visit their children and get involved in their life. We would take them fishing and go to their football games, until the wife would tell me, "You gotta stop bringing him around. If the welfare dept catches him here in my house I could lose my benefits."
