The murky world of spying

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

I don't agree that Iraq posed no threat. Even the Clinton administration stated that they had WMD's, and clinton bombed them at one point.

And even after bombing they did not retaliate. That tells you how serious thread they have posed...

In the end, we would have been better off sending in Rummy to cut a deal with Saddam. Wasn't that the whole idea when we put Saddam in there in the first place? That whole thing with Kuwait was apparently just a misunderstanding anyway, when the US ambassador somehow gave Saddam the impression we didn't care if he took over kuwait. For sure we would have better off with Saddam than what is going to be in charge in a year or two.

I don't think it was a misunderstanding... It was a ploy to make Saddam look dangerous to the Arab world and a reason to install military bases in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait... Saddam was just used for this purpose, just as he was used before against Iran... Simple as that...

Interesting theory that ties up some annoying loose ends. Hard to believe some Richard Clarke type attention seeker woudn't have spilled the beans by now though. I wish I thought our people were clever enough to come up with that plan.

ahhh the tangled webs we weave:eek:
pawn in the game, war a heck of a business, serves sooooo many interests.:( :( :(

In retrospect it was truly one of those events that change history. No Kuwait invasion, no US troops in Saudi. No troops in Saudi, no Osama bin Laden attacking the US. No 9/11, no Iraq war.

Fully agreed!!!! and all that $$$ would have stayed here benefiting the people, not the merchants of war..:( :( :(

Chalabi is obviously bent. Anyone that good at political lobbying in Washington is, by definition, untrustrorthy and harmful to the interests of the west.

"Iraqi exile leader Ahmad Chalabi accused CIA Director George Tenet on Thursday of being responsible for allegations that he passed intelligence information to Iran.

Chalabi, a former member of the Iraqi Governing Council, made the accusation after President Bush announced that Tenet was stepping down as CIA director for personal reasons.

Tenet’s announcement came amid new storms over intelligence issues, including an alleged Defense Department leak of highly classified intelligence to Chalabi."

hmmmm I wonder if GW trusts Chalabi over Tenet.. anything to do with Tenet's jumping ship?

:D:D:D
