Movies I have seen lately that I would recommend:
Superbad
Stardust

Kill Bill one and two.
I am a huge Uma Thurman fan since Kill Bill vol 1 came out. That woman worked her arse off doing the stunts herself. The plot was diabolical, complex, full of surprise twists and turns AND ultimately EVERYTHING came together.
interesting point. When I went to the theatre to see the first one, I was so turned off by some of the more disturbing imagery and contrasts that I almost walked out. Just too much gore... but after I became a bit more desensitized to it, the unique and cleverly shot story held me and was satisfying in it's creativity.
With minor suspension of disbelief (unbelievably speedy recouperation, where'd she get her resources to go after her targets, crazy 88 acrobatics and a few others) this movie weaved a fascinating story of revenge. And the completion of "unfinished business".
Gory but great.

I'm yet to see, a movie where weapon fighting is as simple and brutal as it tends to be. Short of Ong bak, i guess.
I was amazed to find, the "gun-stock" club, portrayed in the last of the mohicans, was a native invention, based entirely on the efficacy of the brown bess musket in close quarters combat.
Old hat, im sure, but i recently had the misfortune, to watch both "jarhead", and "flags of our fathers" in the space of a couple of days.
He'h, if id read all the reviews here, i shoud'a known.............
I simply couldn't beleive, how badly they stank, they both sucked in every way its possible to, , they reeked large.
Jarhead, WTF was that? Tried to say something, changed its mind, and STANK from start to finish, im ashamed to say i didn't turn it off, i was in disbelief, that it wasn't going to get better. It didnt.
Flags of our fathers? Same deal, cringeworthy CRAP, a promising premise of a film, writ small, tawdry, and conveniently un challenging and melodramatically sympathetic, so pukeworthy and indolent, i felt like barfing at the sheer preposterous bollock's of the cliche'd american indian serviceman, the kiddie glove treatment this piece of crap film dished out to these people, much less the actual servicemen.
A load of unadulterated CRAP.
"Blech" to these two films, thats for sure.

I watch a lot of movies and there are two I've seen recently that I would recommend to anyone who likes serious and compelling dramas -
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and Gone Baby Gone.
I wont give away any more of the plot than the trailers do, instead I'll try to describe very generally what I liked about each movie.
I liked the Assassination of Jesse James because of Robert Ford. He's interesting, complex, and one of the best developed characters I've ever seen in a movie. They don't make the mistake of trying to explain the motivations for all his actions, he's very human and there are a lot of conflicting emotions at play. The movie is slow and long, but it's always interesting and even the minor characters are three-dimensional.
I liked Gone Baby Gone because they avoided all the genre cliches. It's a movie about child abduction, yet there are no good guys, and there are no bad guys. There are only people doing what they believe is right, and dealing with the consequences. It's thought-provoking, well-paced, and doesn't provide neat and simple solutions to complex problems.
