Anyone -- felon or not -- can use a limited liability entity. Leaving Putin aside this worldwide story will have very long legs and huge impact in many jurisdictions. It provides a starting point for authorities and journalists and it will bring down scores, if not hundreds, of important businessmen around the world and at least a few politicians.
In the 70's I helped over a dozen European clients create a variety of entities and bank/brokerage accounts through Vaduz. Before completing my mandate I advised each of them that they were risking quite a bit, including their liberty, by operating through these entities to evade the tax man yet the craving to beat the man proved compelling and not even a single one took my advice. It can be a complex task to assure anonymity and many end up doing something stupid to draw attention to their activities. My counsel advised me that I was in compliance with US law; this was way before comprehensive money laundering laws existed. They also advised me that I should avoid Italy for an extended period of time which I did for almost 15 years. Avoiding that wonderful country for so long was a big price to pay but I wanted the money and the safety.

How the hell did that guy get involved with these cronies? What are the dots that connect him to the others? Are there more Nordic countries on the way? Will this make its way into the heart of Europe? Confidence in the system is at the heart of stock markets. Europe is already a disaster. What happens to the Euro on an unexpected announcement?

Why is it surprising to you that Nordic people might be corrupt? And what about Greeks make them likely to be involved?
Don't get me wrong, I expect there are shitheads in Greece as well. I am just not surprised that a PM from Iceland was looking out for his own interests.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is also covering the story. And in their very lengthy coverage today they gave no details but they included this line:
"CBC News will be exploring more of what's in the documents, including Canadian connections, in a series of stories this week."
Instead of giving us the details of the Canadian connections today they are going to milk the story for a week. And guess what the outcome will be? NOTHING ..... But the CBC will get an audience for a week.
i duno. americans have wasted their credibility too much to be believable. these guys on top sure know that but they seem do not care. Maybe think they do not need peoples support any more.
