you're probably right, now you are elevating the conversation, my post was just to reply to a low life democrat that thought if he attacked Bush all republicans would rise up to defend him, not knowing that most conservatives despise Bush more than either of the Clintons. Unlike the democrats who will support anybody that is a democrat that can win regardless of how many times they have been betrayed by their own party. The second part seems right, but I'm not so convinced about the first: I suspect Reagan's share of the blame was bigger, and most of the mess just took a generation or so to show up (as it did in some other countries, too).
But getting back to Reagan, he made us "feel good" about being Americans again (unlike we felt under Jimmy Carter) but if he was a trader, he picked really piss poor dictators to go long on.
otherwise, big difference between republicans and conservatives
and for that matter, liberals and democrats
some are liberals and believe in a very liberal use of government power
others are conservative and feel like giving the government any more power is like opening a Pandora's Box
either way, it has very little to do with political parties
vote republican or democrat, don't matter to me, either way you are going to end up exactly the same
That's why I say let the women control the government nanny state, that's all they are good for, and let the men control war and defense, since that's all they really understand
and get the government out of the economics business, since it is a very dismal science
