The market is whispering something...

Quote from inandlong:

Let's see... just some examples...

1- independence from British tyranny - War of Independence
2- abolition of slavery - Civil War
3- halt of genocide of Jews - WWII

Are there examples where war did not work out so well? Sure... Viet Nam comes to mind.

But to say that no one benefits from war is inaccurate.

And how does this relate to the basic premise of the thread... well, as I said before and others have also said, stocks and commodities that rally with war have rallied already... gold, oil, defense stox.
================================
Babak beseeched us for some market comments.

Counter trend rallies have still been stronger than gold in Jan.

:cool

HD and others still look wounded in the earnings war.

You are totally right dude and I am sorry for ever rustling your feathers.

We should remove bush from his seat stop the potential war with these jokers and this will bring world peace to all on earth.

If you really think that will work I have a system here that I would like for you to trade!

By the way when someone holds the door for you aren't you supposed to say Thank You instead of Your welcome?

My point being toward the nice factor is that.....we are expected to be nice and expected to do the right thing at all times and I truthfully believe that it needs to stop untill we create some sort of order within the Arab community. Yes I did say Arab bastards, and yes I do believe they should die and yes some of them will be innoccent. But, being ruthless is the only way these people will listen and that is that. War is ugly, war is brutal and war is innevitable at this point reguardless of your opinion. We are going on with it and yes you have the right to protest and do whatever but at the end of the day this will still benefit you and your family. If you cannot respect that then you cannot respect this country or yourself for that matter. If you feel so bad about this go visit these countries and see how they treat you or any other american and tell me what you think.

You're not a bigot, you're not a fascist, you don't hate foreigners. Then you state we should "kill some arab ass bastards". Then you sign with the word "Peace", and accuse me of "not getting it".

What I don't get is how you can make these contradictory remarks and not even see the slightest hypocrisy.

"People here are nice". Well, gee, I was walking into a store, and someone I didn't even know held the door open for me for a second, and said "you're welcome" when I thanked him. That's a good reason to go drop some bombs on people I don't know in some country I've never been to.

klutz:The best bit was ....."I cannot be that wrong if the leader of the US feels the same way".

Hail to the infallible American leader!
I don't know what country your family comes from Compisnada, and quite likely it is a place where political coups commonly take place and fair elections are a rare thing. But in the United States of America, we are supposed to have genuine fair free elections.
When a gang tampers with elections so that one of them can claim to be the leader, it doesn't sit well with Americans who understand what America is supposed to be about.

Even when the president is fairly elected, we the people have the right to disagree with him. When he's just an imposter who committed election fraud to grab power, we not only have the right but the obligation as Americans to oppose him. And that's what Bush is. And your willingness to give this pettyminded dictator free reign is remiscent of the mentality in fascist regimes.

actually there are about 5 different conversations going on in this thread and 4 of them have other threads dedicated to them. Time for this thread to end.

ET should create a section called Entertainment, and topics could include: name calling, pissing matches, ego-trips, betting, dick-sizes, politics, religion, trading ability (or lack therof), wallet-size, gay bashing, belittling, showing off, or any of the numerous topics most threads degenerate into anyway.

I, for one would welcome it. At the very least I would know where to go directly for laughs.

Babak, First you start this thread with a highly political comment and then you say you want no political views? Funny.

Just to note, I disagree with your oil theory, especially after 9/11.

Well I'm not too confident in my analysis but I would like to mention the following:

Dec Eurodollars - 98120 or implying very little change by Fed.
Sept Fed Funds - 98690 implying very little change by Fed
Long bonds - high correlation to crude
Euro especially & Yen rallying vs. US$
CPI doubled from June 2002 1.06% to Dec 2002 2.1% with some forecasts saying inflation about to really pop come this spring/summer.

Inexperienced conclusion - bond market about to fall but many players are scared to short heavy in case 'war -geopolitical' scene ends up delaying the inevitable.

So possibly equities are not performing as one would expect. however, debt market appears to me to factor some sort of turmoil presently.

BTW, a past thread you showed how NAZ may be good short possibility. (1st of Dec or so.) I sold off here & made good $ with a small retirement account I had just put in equities a few weeks prior. Thanks

Laying odds on the war:

http://wwweb4.worldwager.com/asp/WWFrame.asp?SportType=12

Political Prop: Will Saddam Hussain be President of Iraq on 6/30/03?

Yes: -200 (200 bet pays 100 profit)
No: +160 (100 bet pays 160 profit)

So those of you who are so positive we plan to fight during the next few months are taking the dog- not the favorite.

Other interesting odds:

Political Prop: Who will die first?
Henry Kissinger -130
Saddam Hussain -110

Political Prop: Who will die first?
Osama Bin Laden 120
Yasser Arafat -160

Political Prop: Will Osama Bin Laden be captured (dead or alive) by the US government in 2003?
Yes OBL held 250
No OBL held -400
