'' The Luck Factor ''

Quote from Ron In-a-sauna:

what a load of crap! to use authors own example, kate moss got "lucky" when a talent scout noticed her? come on, she is hot, there are hundreds of scouts who eventually would notice her she jsut happened to take taht one up on the offer whetehr it was the 1st time or 100th time. if your meant to do something, i.e again moss is hot she could always be a mode, you willeventually get your "break".
and as far as meeting spouses as the article discusses, or meeitng anyone for that matter is always a chance meeting... everyone you know is a chance meeting!!!!
dont know why i felt the need ot get philosophical, and now i realize i am bored and must get off the computer!

Uhm I see hotter girls than Kate Moss on the street everyday. Shiit, you can see hotter spanish girls than J-Lo in the Bronx anyday. I've hotter girls in modeling and acting that are better than kate moss, yet just not getting lucky.
No offense, but you gotta be pretty stupid not to recognize that show business is A LOT of luck and sometimes even nothing but luck.

Quote from Corso482:

The book says more than that...for example, in his career selection chapter (of the Millionaire Mind) he talks about how the people weren't necessarily the smartest, but they entered fields in which they could compete. They found a niche. They didn't try to enter the legal, medical and engineering fields where they would certainly be crushed by all the oversized brains.

If you apply that to trading, it makes the market seem like a foolish thing to enter. After all, the smartest minds in the world are all vying for the same zero-sum pie.

I never read the Millionaire Mind but if it is anything like the Millionaire Next Door, I really do not care to. I'm not bashing the people interviewed in that book, they are hard workers, frugal and rightfully earned their one or two millions. But saving up for years and years to have a million so that you can still shop at Kmart is not my idea of being rich. That book does not teach you anything your parents have not taught you.

I think "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" is a much better read. There are always opportunities and luck is always there, it's who takes the risks to take advantage of them.

Quote from Corso482:

Has anyone read the Millionaire Next Door or the Millionaire Mind? I'm too lazy to look back, but I recall most millionaires saying that luck didn't have much to do with their success.

Of course they say that! But those books have been pretty well shown to be bunk.

not as hot as the mexican chicks in phoenix!

Well, you may want to give luck a chance by not staying at home 24/7, buying a lottery ticket, chasing chicks ... trying is, to allow luck to happen :D

It's also about being open to whatever happens, because you never know the result if you never pick an option. I guess the secret lies in being open to whatever situation arises - may it be due to trying or due to luck (i.e. not trying, but allowing).

This somehow reminds me of Yin and Yang. The Yang part creates and controls (trying = active), the Yin part lets things happen (experiencing = passive).

In trading, you may wish to stack chances in your favorite, which is the active part. But at the same time, you must be willing to take what is offered, the passive part.

You are not a victim. All people in the article recognized the opportunity as it was open. All decided to act upon it. None of them reacted sheepish. Seeing an opportunity and acting decisively is much different to what you feel, like " ... makes you want to give up trying ... "

Simply change your viewpoint.

This post says it all. My entire life changed one morning because I woke up on time instead of sleeping in like I wanted to.

'luck'?

those of you using that term would do better in using 'fate' instead. With that you may be a touch closer to knowing what you're talking about..

Just a thought,
