Of course, we are not free.

We are bound by a group of very evil whores, who reside in Washington, D.C.
The IRS is their pit bull who is used to keep the slaves in check and to keep stealing the cash from the rightful owners so that they can use it for any purpose that they can possibly dream up.
And meanwhile, they (the D.C. whores) keep their pockets lined with dough by making "special arrangements" in the tax code for their rich friends who just "might" make a "donation" to their next election cycle.

Slickest form of slavery in the history of mankind, huh?

Most USA citizens have merely given up because they perceive the "system" as too complex and corrupt to ever fix.
So, they pretend that they are free, partially because they grew up being told that they are free and that they can do anything that they want to do.
Of course, this is no longer true in the (formerly) United States.

Free doesn't just mean that you can say some things that you want, or just because you can own a gun, after you jump thru all the UNCONSTITUTIONAL hoops.
After all, you're not a circus animal, right?...Or, are you?

At least those "outside [the] bounds" thinkers you speak of find a voice here on ET.

It's just that the density of fools in the outside world that are interested in "outside [the] bounds" conspiracy crap that violates logic and reason is too low to spark much interest, whereas among traders fools are far more easily found.:D
