The Latino vote - Abortion may be why Trump won

I think abortion can be a winning issue for the make America great again party.

the linked article below explains that Trump beat Romney with Latinos and the speculation is the real vote for trump was even higher...

This got me to thinking.

For the first time in my life I heard Catholic priests hammering the abortion issue in church the weekend before the election.

Also, Catholic radio has been very vocal about real Catholics not being able to vote for democrats.

I mean You should have heard the sermon I heard about abortion last weekend.
The priest was very careful to say that the bishops have warned against being political and running afoul of tax rules... So he focused his sermon on the evils of abortion.

You bring more latino Catholics into the anti establishment republican group... and you have a new party that wins... over and over for a generation.

Abortion is the wedge issue for make america great again party.
Was this a Catholic lash against Obama and Hillary forcing Catholic groups to provide abortificients.

Very good points. I've said for years that the latino voting bloc is not something to be taken for granted by the Dem's. Their "wedge issue" is centered around immigration. What they continually fail to understand is that not every Hispanic is an illegal immigrant border crosser. Even those who were/are in the country illegally and going thru the various legal channels to become citizens do not approve of the blanket amnesty and the pandering to those who do not follow the law.

The leftist media is always focusing it's attention on this one particular segment (see Univision) and completely ignoring (perhaps 50+%) of other Hispanic's who hold socially conservative viewpoints and are strongly in favor of the legal channels towards citizenship (after all they spent years and thousands of dollars to become citizens...why should some leftist hack's just give it all away).

In other words, one "wedge" issue vs another "wedge" issue. The left is really grasping at straws when they try to frame their argument's as some imagined plurality of support.

“Catholics are the swing vote in American politics,” Reed said. White Catholics, who are one out of six voters, voted 54 percent for Trump and 36 percent for Clinton.

Catholics helped Trump win Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, he said.


I note... that I have read most hispanics self identify as white.

Broken out separately, the evangelical vote went for Trump by astonishing margins, Reed said: in Florida, by 85 percent to 13 percent; Georgia, by 88 percent to 6 percent; and Wisconsin, by 71 percent to 24 percent.
 
I believe Hispanics abort more than anyone in the USA. I believe they voted for Trump so he can keep the illegals from coming here and taking THEIR jobs.

Latino Leaders: Trump Did Not Win 29 Percent of Hispanic Vote

Latino leaders are refusing to accept exit poll data showing President-elect Donald Trump won 29 percent of the Hispanic vote Tuesday.

Instead the leaders said they stand by the findings of Latino Decisions polling firm, whose data showed Trump a record low 18 percent of Latinos voted for Trump.

"We strongly dispute exit poll reports that suggest Trump support for the Latino community exceeded that of Mitt Romney in 2012," Janet Murguía, president of the National Council of La Raza, said at a Thursday news conference in Washington, D.C. Several other leaders were at the news conference and echoed her remarks.

Election Day exit polling showed the 13 million Latinos who turned out made up 11 percent of the electorate. The polling showed Latinos broke 65 percent for Clinton to 29 percent for Trump. In 2012, President Barack Obama got 71 percent of the Latino vote, while Romney finished with 27 percent.

The groups also criticized media for accepting and reporting the exit poll numbers.

"It is an insult to us as Latinos to keep hearing the media ignoring empirical data that was presented by Latino Decisions and representing an alternative number that we do not accept and we reject," Murguía said.
