If you are concerned with not loosing lots of money, I think intraday is your BEST choice as a trading style to master. Directional options may be a good choice as well. Do not do any trading(not talking about investing) that involves overnight risk. One day you will wake up with big losses. Don't get lulled by the long low volatility bull run, this is not the norm. The longer the timeframe, the larger the drawdowns, the longer the recovery time, and the least confidence, imho. You need to be well capitalized to play that properly.
BTW, the machines are NOT taking your "children's bread." Why are you even trading with bread money anyway?

Both inter/intra are profitable.
I am a day trader and it is not a casino, its a system. If you are blessed to have the knowledge and understand the setups then it's highly successful.
Er, yeah, those times ended a couple months ago. They be over. Maybe you have not heard, but the long low volatility bull market is kaput?
