The hurricane heading towards nyc/nj

I live in a town that suffered a direct hit from Katrina. (The center of the eye passed only a few miles from my home.) Irene looks similar to me but may lose a little energy as it moves North. Let's hope so. This is a very serious storm. Don't take the threat too lightly. Over 1800 people were killed by Katrina! I agree that the media usually greatly exaggerates. Not in this case though. Be safe everyone.

Right now forecast is for borderline Cat-1 with 80-100 mph gusts for nyc metro area.

If it tracks over NYC/Western LI they're saying it will push water from the LI sound and the atlantic into the harbor, so that could be a problem, especially if its high-tide. That track would also mean the worst winds for Eastern LI, worst rain for jersey.

Quote from J Ski:

Been fortunate to have been through:
Typhoon Pamela in Guam, 200mph max winds, 30 days no power.
Then Hurricane Andrew, around 200mph winds,5 days no power.
Then Wilma, a p*ssy, 150mph, 14 days no power.

Super Typhoon Pamela
On May 21 the typhoon crossed Guam with sustained winds of 140 mph (230 km/h).

Hurricane Andrew
In 2002, as part of an ongoing review of historical hurricane records, National Hurricane Center experts concluded that Andrew had sustained winds of 165 mph (266 km/h) briefly before and during landfall, making it a Category 5.

Enjoy getting smashed by a fallen tree whilst paintballing.

Im a catastrophe insurance adjuster, I track these things closely; this one looks like more than just media hype.

I, for one, plan on making a nice chunk of change from Ms Irene.
you certainly fit the bill. You actually enjoy making money at the cost of others? You're what's wrong with this world.

looks like the wind is already down to 85mph, it will be a tropical storm when it hits nyc later tonight.

Bored out of my mind locked in my apt. My building management went batshit crazy, getting an email from them every hour since yesterday with gold nuggets such as those:

Dear Residents,

Fill your bath tub half way to the top to reserved water for toilet usaged.

Thank you,
Management

having lived 4 years without electricity, cooking gas and hot water I would say filling up your bath with water today in new york is not a bad idea

why?
he didn't create the misery. is he suppose to feel your pain? he is happy to make extra bucks because of his expertise. maybe by your thinking he should be forced to do his job at minimum wage.
every commie/socialist feels my pain while having his hand in my pocket and going off to his dacha ie obama.
I forgot. he returned to the white house. did he take the maid on the island with him?

by the way how do you know he doesn't feel simpatico while doing his job?
it's people like you who are what's wrong with the world.

how can you ask people to evacuate when some don't have a car? This is "mandatory" but some states this is not even legal....the gummint is strong arming people once again....

Man what's the deal with the hurricane heading to nyc/nj this weekend, everyone is panicing like it's the end of days. The media of course are throwing more fuel to the fire. It will probably just be a nonevent with some rain and wind....

With bencopter speech tomorrow and light trading volume, it will be an interesting day heading into hurricane weekend.

Was planning to go paintball in upstate this weekend, probably not such a bright idea now that i think about it. Dont want to end up on the darwin award...

betting long on oil, especially gasoline, and hotel chains, some retail stores. let see how it play out. but didn't short any insurance companies.
