Senator Paul’s announcement comes after fireworks with Dr. Fauci over his statements regarding the NIAID’s funding of ‘gain of function’ research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology through the subcontractor EcoHealth Alliance.

When someone tells you that they are going to beat your ass...they are not saying they are going to slap you on the butt although that would still be an assault in eyes of the law.
Instead, they are stating they are going to "assault you" in any way they can.
Paul Rand was tackled on his property, the guy had him in a choke hold (judo move) and factually told Paul Rand he's getting his ass beat.
Paul Rand told the police the guy tackled him and beat him up. The tackle resulted in Paul Rand being injured (bruises on his neck, five rib fractures, including three displaced fractures and bruised lungs).
Simply, in Paul Rand's eyes...he was beaten up. To the neighbor (a doctor - anesthesiologist and pain specialist), he stated to Paul Rand (a doctor too) I'm going to beat your ass.

P.S. It's not the first time that Paul Rand had a confrontation with a neighbor. He has a very bad reputation on his own street. In my opinion, he must not be getting invites to the neighborhood barbecue.
