Wto blah blah was then and this is now wheee the sand has shifted. Could have successfully taken on china 10 yrs ago but now is too late. You don't need to know a shit about China. But you then shouldn't expect China to settle easily if you don't get its inner fabrics. The world is full of contradictions and imbalances and if you think things are that simple (simple for the west) you will be disappointed. The so-called West is simply the US plus some small potato European countries which are having enough internal shits. Everybody takes advantage of everybody, what's fair from a point isn't fair for others. The West is too dependent on the US who is close to the end of its supermarcy. China and its antiUS allies are big enough to split the world into two sides.

Btw, why don't you put your japanese-hat back on instead of shifting from understanding Asia well to the international community and one-sided logic. The international community is just a few Englis-speaking white guys trying to tilt the interconnected world towards their benefits.

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. Europe is China's biggest trading partner not the US. Europe is independent and does not just follow American doctrins. No matter how you belittle Europe changes facts. And you seem to have a serious issue understanding the basic definition of fairness and honesty and keeping to contracts. It's not how you feel about fairness but those terms are defined on the basis of facts. That everyone just cheats and steals from each other is absolutely untrue. The US does not run a state sponsored racket that instructs and enables American firms to steal IP and corporate secrets from Chinese firms. If you believe that then you are simply a conspiracy theorist.

I don't care how some liberals and left leaning folks want everyone to be the same. Fact is some cultures positively reinforce honesty, principles, truth, promises. Other cultures espouse theft, lies, deceit and do not put any value on ethics and morals. Chinese culture belongs to the latter. Always has and always will.

Listen, I got your point and vehemently disagree with you and nothing oyu say will change my mind because I have not heard a single argument you brought forward that is based on facts that challenged my points. Let's stop debating at this point because I don't think you fully understand the cultural differences as much as you claim you do.

Hong Kong has indefinitely pulled its controversial extradition bill following a backlash that saw tens of thousands of people take to the streets and drew international condemnation from lawyers, businesses and the US government. Carrie Lam, Hong Kong’s chief executive, told reporters on Saturday: “We do not intend to set any deadline for the relevant work. We promise after we have collated various views, we will consult with the security panel of Legco (the territory’s parliament).” Opposition to the proposed bill, which critics claim would allow anyone passing through the territory to be ferried across the border to stand trial in mainland China on potentially trumped-up charges, resulted in violent clashes on the streets of Asia’s financial centre. Protest organisers said that Sunday’s planned march would go ahead, despite Ms Lam’s mothballing the bill, as its purpose was to condemn the police’s use of weapons and force last Wednesday, as well as using the word “riot” to characterise the protests. “We also demand that the government should release all thoses arrested in the protests and not prosecute them,” one organiser added. At least 94 people were injured in violent confrontations on Wednesday when central Hong Kong was brought to a standstill as police and protesters clashed. Police used an estimated of 150 rounds of tear gas, 20 bean bag rounds, several rubber bullets and batons against protesters Police commissioner Lo Wai-chung said the police acted in self-defence after protesters, armed with metal poles and wooden boards, threw bricks at them. Eleven protesters were arrested for illegal assembly, assault and rioting. Ms Lam made it clear that the extradition bill would be reintroduced when the time was right. “We will pause and think and for the time being suspend,” she said. Beijing officials in charge of Hong Kong’s affairs held meetings in Shenzhen, the mainland Chinese city which borders the former British colony, to better understand the situation in Hong Kong and find a way out of the deadlock, local media reported on Saturday. Ms Lam had vowed to push ahead with the original timetable for the bill on Monday. But since then the backlash against the bill — from lawyers and businesses as well as the US and other foreign governments — has intensified. On Friday Bernard Chan, the most senior adviser to Ms Lam, displayed the first sign of a potential split among the city’s leadership when he said it was “impossible” to discuss the bill against a backdrop of violent clashes.

What you are stating are unwarranted concerns that fear mongers spread. There are tons of wealthy in China and most of them were never abducted nor arrested and never will be. As long as one does not commit egregious crimes of corruption and stands along party lines politically speaking one is safe. It's just the same average people who are actually totally unimportant to the Chinese state who constantly believe they are spied on and at risk of abduction.

I have been westernised due to my bsckground, but the US isn't as fair and liberal as it is portrayed to be and neither am I a conspiracy dude. I do better in the anglosaxon style environment but also am aware how other value systems exist after spending time in various Asian and mideast countries. White guys have a tendency to assume supremacy but many white countries are as socialist as Japan or Thailand. After all, it is who that has power wins not fairness or justice. When the next US recession hits, I wonder how many its current allies and domestic supporters will switch side to china
