most americans are clueless to the extent that the US is a police state.
Police abuse of civil asset forfeiture laws has shaken our nation's conscience. Civil forfeiture allows police to seize — and then keep or sell — any property they allege is involved in a crime. the key word is allege. it happens before trial. you are denied use of assets to defend yourself. then even if you should happen to win you have to sue to get your assets back. most people settle with the thieves. otherwise it will take years to get your assets back.

The federal agents AND police are wards of the court, NOT "civil servants" as most believe. The concept of "innocent until proven guilty" is a scam. It's the other way around. Just ask anyone who has been railroaded by the legal/justice system. That doesn't imply that EVERY police officer and federal agent are corrupt. However, when there's a financial incentive to take the assets without any repercussions, then it's a system that's ripe for abuse.
