Great question.... I mostly trade ETFs, and use 2day highs/lows and trend strength to decide.
Example I bought KOLD several weeks ago during it's breakout and sold 13.1. I'm rebuying if it continues up. I'm in TZA because of its uptrend.
I often do the same with gold, eg GDX vs DUST, etc. For swingtrading I start small, usually 100 shares or less, then scale in at 2day highs, scale out at 2day lows.
My favorite stock pick lately has been F. I'm waiting til after Wednesday Powell speech to initiate new swings. I anticipate a very red wed afternoon and beyond and will buy a lot of TZA SQQQ UVXY if mkts sell off.
i do that too.....but i wait for the pull back.....it should be a weak move.....then i know that is a pull back.....and i enter when the market shows me the pull back is over. a breakout pull back trade,as brooks calls it, as do hundreds others.
it does not matter what you call it..it matters only if you trade it!
if the pull back is strong and the attempt to regain the previous trend fails......meaning it tests the high of the pull back and forms and confirms a lower high...... then i sell
why complicate things ..looking at volume...elliot waves, demark, order flow .....cluster profiles.......probability............wedges ...triangles,,,, broadening patterns............H&S.............reversal patterns [this is the really the worst shit]
you just get trades all the time... instead of waiting for patterns ..set ups and losing hundreds of thousands of usd like i used to do.......
i am going to write a book and it will be one page only...just what i wrote above.
trade dumb ! not intelligently......95% fail because they use their intelligence...and try to 'see' what no one else sees

Grinch failing miserably putting any dent in markets. Desperate traders promote their short trades like they can retire on the massive haul they made on a 0.8% daily move. Even when completely wrong, never a losing trade it's magical.
