fc is probably right about the Columbus crew not being mutinous over fears of falling off the edge of the earth.

They were probably more likely mutinous over whether their ships could handle the storms of the open seas and lack of food and water.

Remember Columbus thought he was sailing to the orient. Had it not been for stumbling upon the North American Caribbean islands they would have starved to death.
