The Friendly Atheist Next Door

Just seen an article this week about a person trying to change the law in Tennessee to allow atheist to hold office, you can be of any faith as long as you recognize a Supreme Being. Here are some of the other states that won't allow you to hold office if atheist. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friend...ates-ban-atheists-from-holding-public-office/
Thank you Nitro, I didn't realize 23 million had left the church. One would think they would change faiths perhaps before renouncing all faith, which is what many do.bill

The law should actually be that unless the politician is an atheist he/she should not be allowed to hold office. First of all it's a matter of separation of church and state and second of all, anyone who believes in some dude in the sky that made the universe and answers prayers, is obviously not rational so is therefore not suited to lead a nation.

That is NOT what separation of church and state is all about. Go read up and be educated.

They were smart enough to found a Nation? The United States prospered greatly under the leadership you so aptly disdain. Consequently we have been on a downward spiral since 1963 and the Warren Supreme Court.

In case you haven't noticed, knowledge has progressed over the last three hundred years.

No. I think they "pay a price" for the indoctrination when they are children to the religion.
From the link of nitro, and so welcome to see you post again!

"There are many ways of expressing Humanism's tenets, including three manifestos published by American Humanists since 1933. Robert Ingersoll, one of the first outspoken nonbelievers in the United States, conveyed the gist most succinctly: "The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others so."

We've been on a downward spiral since the domestication of the horse.
