The Fed has no choice but to raise interest rates and crush the market

no kidding, they talk about "The Strong Dollar", all that means is it's falling slower than everything else
Perhaps it means it is rising while other currencies are falling. Have you given that a thought yet?

Gold no longer functions as a currency. That it is traded doesn't change that, canola seed has worth and is traded, but it's not currency. And it won't be me defining currency "in a way that excludes gold", the definition of money and currency can be found all over.

I'll have to disagree. Even the generic google definition of "money" defines it as a "medium of exchange". Gold can qualify as that. Hell, in some circles ammo can qualify as money. That it is accepted for the exchange of goods/services qualifies it.

The circles it may be accepted may be much more limited, but that's all. You'll say something like "You can't take gold to the grocery store to buy food." You'd be correct. But I can't take Euros there either, unless I'm in Europe.

Money is such wherever it is accepted as a medium of exchange. Gold can be money. Bitcoin can be money. Far more limited, mind you, but it is still considered money.

So the lesson for Max is, if the price of bananas is falling, it's because the Fed is rebasing our currency?

Bananas? Bananas are certainly relevant to this discussion, but more in the way of the mental stability of some.

Why not bananas? At least they have the distinction of being food, which is a little closer to a real measure of value than ammunition, for most people, anyway. And bananas, like everything else you mention, could be exchanged for currency with which one could pay their bills and read their account statements--therefore they too are currency.

What was the price of bananas in the 70's what is it today? Moron.

Edit: And in what world do you live in where the price of bananas is going down?
