Russia is insisting on pricing in rubles, both imports and exports. Their foreign exchange Dollar and Euro reserve accounts have been impounded. What they are doing is both smart and an act of desperation. They know that some countries are still very much dependent of Russian natural gas and oil. By insisting on payment in Rubles they know they have these countries over a barrel , so to speak. To obtain sufficient Ruble reserves to pay for the Russian oil and gas that they depend on, these countries may have to agree to export products to Russia and accept payment in Rubles. This is not something they would ordinarily do. I don't know if this clever Russian ploy will succeed for long, however, because Western Europe is working feverishly to free themselves from dependence on Russian oil and gas.
