That's rough, but it's a common experience with or without religion.
I always recommend to my friends: if you want to see what your future looks like, look at her mom and dad. If her mom and dad are not together or are together and hate each other, that's going to be you 80% of the time no matter how much she tries to convince you otherwise.
In my case, I heard so many bad things about her father from her entire family but when I met him, it didn't match the build up.

Edit: the best part was my dumbass father introduced me to this girl, knowing all this.
