So the Covid-deniers whine ceaselessly that children are behind in education due to school closings -- while pointing out the small percentage of children who were killed by Covid. Of course, while not mentioning the significant number of children hospitalized by Covid or enduring Long Covid.
The other thing the Covid-deniers never mention is the large number of children who lost their parents to Covid -- they are direct victims of Covid as well. Here are some of their stories.
These children lost young parents to Covid-19. Here's what they want other kids -- and adults -- to know

I spent a few months keeping statistics on children and teenagers that lost one parent or lost their caregiver to Covid...many end up in child custody, some ended up being taken in by a relative and others (e.g. 18 or 19) ended up dropping out of school to work so that they become the caregivers for their younger siblings.
I personally know one particular family like that in South Dakota. Mom dies in 2018 from a hit-run...driver was never caught. Dad dies from Covid as one of those Smithfield Foods workers...the plant was shut down after +1,000 workers tested positive for Covid...I think about 10% were hospitalized.
- In fact, I believe this was the start of rising food prices and it was in Pork.
The kids are taken in by a grandparent...elderly woman. She dies 5 months later due to lung cancer (heavy smoker).
My brother (a doctor) gets the oldest teenager a full-time job at his hospital so that the teen can support his three younger siblings to keep them out of childcare custody services. Luckily the small house was paid off from insurance money when the mom was killed by a hit-run driver.
Sad situation. After that story, I wasn't able to monitor the statistics about the children abandoned by Covid. It was a period when GoFundMe Fundraising company had an unusual number of fund pages set up for children...to raise money for those children abandoned by Covid in the United States and Canada.
This was my eye-opener event because I didn't want that to happen to my family. It was at this time that my ex-spouse and I had a family discussion in which we decided to get fully vaccinated...to protect our kids because our relatives live in either the United States or France while we reside abroad in another country.
Two countries our children have never lived in although they have very close relationships with family members there. Also, at that time, my oldest was preparing his college applications and military academy applications to France and the United States...
- Yet, he's not the type of teen that could care for his two younger siblings if something were to happen to both mom (west point grad/veteran) and dad (me/former officer/veteran).
As parents, getting fully vaccinated was just like having another insurance policy to protect our children from the worst case scenario. A sentiment shared by many of our military families in which serving moms & dads decided to do the same to protect their vaccines...
before the mandatory vaccines in which +80% were vaccinated
prior to the mandates.
- Today, I think +90% active duty soldiers are now fully vaccinated. The military has the lowest Covid numbers among any occupation of hospitalized or dead from Covid.
Covid Deaths did more damage to families than the lockdown because you just can not replace a parent/caregiver especially those families living abroad like my family...at least not emotionally.
