Moving Russian oil into India and China, mostly China, creates some geopolitical shifts with the Saudis and the Iranians too. The market is very limited for people who will buy from murdering dictators and terrorism supporting theocracies. It would be nice if the Iranians and Russians get into a beef over the Chinese oil market.
As to India, a rupee doesn’t get you access to the global market. The Russians are going to have to figure out a way to convert those rupees into useful tender.
Plenty of countries take the rupee. And Russia is demanding dollars for a large part of the purchase, so India has to get the dollars first.
India buying Russian oil is an overt, unacceptable sign of the Biden administration failure to exercise diplomatic and military strength. The State Department and the Defense Department should have given them an ultimatum and put India in its place right from the get-go.
India has a nasty hot border war going on with China and nearby. It is and has been looking to the U.S. as ally. And we continue to supply mucho arms to them and recently gave them a pantload of Chinook helicopters. That is one of the things that has kept China at bay a bit. The Americans provide India with more arms everytime China does an incursion and kills some Indians.
So now those fuckers are buying oil from Russia when we need them to play ball. Ahhh no, pull their chain in several notches. Let them get their arms and protection from China. Oh wait, China is the one they need protection from. The minute Pakistan and/or China get the slightest whiff of the possibility that the U.S does not have India's back, India's ass is grass and they are lawnmowers.
The Beltway Idiots need to protect American interests. India is playing both sides and the middle. They need to be forced into deciding where they stand. Also don't coming whining to the U.S. or the UN when predictable starvation sets in as a result of your Russian buddies.

My understanding is that India primarily buys their arms from Russia. And the U.S. is trying to woe them over to buying more arms from us.
Russia is the second largest provider of weapons to world. Even China is dependent on them for certain fighter planes and other weapons.
Surprise, surprise, Russia is struggling now to produce weapons even for its own war, let alone be supplier to the world.
Just sayin, some of these countries may need to or should be given reason to think about whether they are going to buy Russian oil and American arms (along with American support) too. If Russia is still in a position to be a big exporter of arms, then we will have to see them demonstrate that. Right now, lots of countries are feeling mighty twitchy about sales and support for anything from Russia except their old Soviet shit going to Senegal or something. The Americans should give them reason to worry about how reliable we are to help them until they get their heads on straight.
Right now it is a jumbleD up mess that is still sorting itself out. You have Chinese military equipment that they got from Russia which Russia can no longer support due to sanctions. And also Russian military equipment that they cannot maintain because China will not supply them with parts due to fear of American sanctions. WHAT A MESS.
Russia has also brought back a lot of its equipment that it had out in various countries/conflicts around the world to position it as a part of the ukraine conflict current and future expansions. So that leaves those countries high and dry and chances of buying new equipment from Russia when it has none to spare are not lookin good.
Might be a bit of "I'm not buying what the Pakistanis buy from you" from India to overcome.
That Siemens turbine thing that really reduced gas supplies to Europe is looking more and more curious. Germany has been seriously dragging its heels in the sanctions, blocking supplies of weapons to Ukraine, and is generally an anchor on the coalition against Russia. So, a bit of pressure is being applied. Gently but firmly. It may be working, too. Germany has finally (after delaying for months) supplied *some* heavy weaponry to Ukraine. Not enough. But some.

They should expand this further... and country taking Russian gold as payment should be sanctioned. This would be a harsh lesson for India.
