Sure. Its quite simple. In a very short and abbreviated fashion, if other countries buy in rubles, it obviously supports the ruble (as they have to sell their currencies against the ruble). If they buy in Euro/Dollars, then Russia's dollar/euro reserves are increased, and they use those reserves to defend the ruble. It may be slightly more complicated for them to do so given sanctions, but because the sanctions aren't total, its not that much more of a big deal.
