SouthAmerica: Today we will start another presidential election cycle in the United States and as usual Americans are going to rely on the people from Iowa, and New Hampshire and let them choose for the rest of the country who should run as the candidates of the Republican and Democratic Parties in the presidential election of November 2008.

The message is laud and clear for the rest of the country: “You people are too stupid that is why Iowa, and New Hampshire has to decide for you who should run for president.”

The American electoral system shows to the world that its democratic system it is at least 100 years behind the times – and today we actually have computers, satellites, 24/7 news, the internet and so on here in the old USA…We even know what is happening in the presidential election in Kenya.

But Americans still using its obsolete election system and they believe that they have real democracy when just a handful of people decide who the candidates are going to be.

It's a Pathetic election system when we consider all the technological advances that has been achieved in the world in the last 100 years.

Kenya, now there's a country that has the electoral process down to a fine art! The epitome of fair voting and ballot counting!!

This might sound like I'm mocking you, but it really is a sincere question.

Are you calling the electoral voting system outdated because you've researched how it works, why it was implemented, and why it is still used, afterward deciding that it is a horrible system? Or have you just heard that so many times that you're repeating it?

The Media has a lot more to say in who the candidates are going to be, long before Iowa and N. Hampshire ever do, and who the Iowans and New Hampshirites vote for in a caucas, has very little to do with the American electoral system, and your post displays your lack of understanding of the American electoral system, but nice try at a cheap shot at the United States anyway.

I have seen many programs on television explaining the US electoral system, and also have discussed the subject at the Daily Kos website.

The US election system it is PATHETIC when used in the 21st century in a country with 300 million people.

If the United States did not have this archaic system then it would be much harder for the gatekeepers to control the election system and who becomes president of the United States.

Why in this day and age the entire country can’t have all its primaries on the same day for both parties?

Why Iowa has the right to eliminate potential candidates for the rest of the country; candidates who dropped out of the presidential race just because the caucus was done in Iowa instead of the home turf of Chris Dodd, Joseph Biden or even New Mexico?

I know Americans think that the people from the other states are not as smart as the people with European background from Iowa.
