The Day Traders Are Back, Now Playing With Options

Why is it hard to write covered calls and generate income?
Who knows, it might work for you.

I was new to options back in 2013. For 6 months, mechanically wrote weekly OTM calls on my long term holdings to generate "income". I stopped doing that after totaled up my "income" and compared to buy and hold.

IMHO, to come out ahead, you really need to have a correct opinion of the underlying direction and timing.

Since 1999 I have never seen or met 1 long term successful option trader in any market. The issue with buying a hope parlay is you have to be correct on direction and time. The latter is where most eventually fail.
Nice to meet you Volente.
Been at it since 2000. Markets have changed dramatically since then.
In some ways it’s easier ... some ways it’s harder.

Can't imagine it getting easier.
It’s more expensive to play.
Back in early 2000’s - while we were coming off a multi decade bear market in commodities..you could buy at the money or just out of the money puts and calls reasonably cheaply. As the bull market took hold, vols rose and it became expensive to play.
It’s easier now probably due to liquidity, electronic trading, etc.
