I didn't see anyone making that demand except the people that are covering their ass should the SHTF. Reminds me of 2008 when they said If we don't bail out the banks and insurance companies to the tune of 700 billion(or whatever it was) that America was going to completely collapse over the weekend.
But it's done now. I guess no real point in arguing over it. The ship has sailed and we're all on it.
I don't think we should compare bank crisis of 2008 - 2010 with the health crisis 2020 even though both at the end of the day results in a financial crisis that requires government intervention.
Both have a completely different psychological impact if we just allowed it to run its course sort'uv speak...survival of the fittest...right ?
Don't forget the fact that several of the world leaders (including Pres. Trump) had trade relationship problems with China prior to the Covid-19 outbreak. In fact, they (including Pres. Trump) stated on live TV that this is a "Chinese Virus"...not our problem and if/when it hits our country...we'll be able to manage it. Heck, the flu has more deaths...many world leaders stated that fact and its true.
What they didn't state was that their hospitals are not prepared to deal with Covid-19 patients and those transmitting the disease are not educated enough to prevent further transmission of the disease.
Yet, as you stated...the ship has sailed regardless if we like it or not.
We're now dealing with it regardless to how many people say we're too late, over-reacted, not the right way, not enough money thrown at it but the one fact that will not change...
Currently, many hospitals in North America are not equipped to deal with this virus. I know enough about virus to know the problem is in the method of spread...the young people stating its not serious or over-rated.
Thus, you need to remember, 30% of those that are sick...they're under 65 years of age and the fastest growing group of illness are 20 - 34 years old. I have two family members working in the hospital systems in the U.S...in two different states. One in the ER and another in Oncology.
What's ironic is that most Covid-19 positive individuals will not need hospitalization. Yet, we can not handle those that will become ill and need medical help from a professional...that's scary to think about. Seriously, preparation to use local football fields and Navy Military ships along with travel warnings to NOT travel.
Both my relatives have Facetime with me showing what's it like in their hospitals to show that hospitals do not have enough equipment (e.g. ventilators) to deal with Covid-19 effects and the quarantine of the patients. Seriously, when you see Pres. Trump on national TV stating they are preparing to use football fields near local hospitals, Navy hospital ships and Oil tankers...
There's a problem...a big problem that they're preparing for.
Seriously, its scary to see that they don't have enough equipment to deal with this. Not enough ICU's, not enough ventilators and many other stuff that there are available drive-thru's to do testing...many don't know about such.
Remember, I'm talking about United States and Canada. These are not 3rd world countries. These are suppose to be the countries with the best available medicine. Really, at my relative's hospital...8 people in the ICU for the same illness (Covid-19) and only 5 have a ventilator while the other 3 are struggling to breath with their relatives trying to encourage them to stay alive. Wow.
Now imagine someone saying this is an over-reaction ...its offensive...its insulting.
Similar to the NBA basketball player (young guy from France name Rudy Gobert) going around touching mics at news conferences and touching his teammates in the face...in a jokingly way while saying its an over-reaction. Later, one of those teammates becomes infected.
The idiot Rudy Gobert than tested positive for the Covid-19 several days later including infecting one of his teammates. Worst, the money making machine like the NBA closed its doors and soon the NHL follow suit. They did that because they quickly recognize that people (young athletes) need to be forced to take this seriously because you don't want to become a petri dish for the Covid-19 nor put their players among those fans doing the same...infecting others while enjoying the game.
I'm sorry, no matter how sick I would become and if I was his teammate...I'll be looking for Rudy to give him a beat-down.
Once again...not enough emphasis...the problem is that the supply has not caught up with the demand. We're struggling to deal with the few that become hospitalized or needs testing.
Currently, Covid-19 stats...the fear is that when someone gets sick...about 80% will be OK on their own but they should not be allowed to go around infecting others that may not be so lucky or already have another unrelated problem (e.g. diabetes, heart problems, colon cancer, immune system problem, severe cold or the flu)...about 20% will not be lucky...a few % will die.
That's the fact...you gotta shut things down because too many people out there think its no big deal. Its over-rated and do not care if they infect others.
I've learned a lot about Pandemics in college...had two years of study in it and unfortunately became severely ill from the pneumonia that most people do not know there's a vaccine for the pneumonia. An illness that kills any age regardless to your health condition prior to the illness.
You have doctors treating Corona Virus patients and then must go treat another patient like surgery. Hospitals telling doctors to "reuse your protective medical masks". Seriously, my relatives have been wearing the same medical face mask for 2 weeks while working in a country with possibly the best healthcare ?
That's absolutely ridiculous for such to be occurring in the U.S...no excuse for countries like the U.S. and Canada.
Back to my own ignorance when I became ill from a different infection called the pneumonia. Seriously, how many people know they can get a pneumonia shot just like a seasonal flu shot ?
My own ignorance about such almost killed me...I'm strong in my late 40's. 2% body fact...works out 5 days a week. Former athlete. I thought it was just a bad cold...eat some hot soup, take some cough syrup and bed rest.
The ironic aspect is that I thought I was smart enough to get my Flu shot a few months prior to that fall of 2016 and thought that was the only thing I needed to be concerned about and there were no travel warnings about such when I was on vacation in Europe.
Never again is now my motto regardless to the name of the illness. Therefore, when that vaccine is developed for Covid-19...I will be first in line to get that vaccine shot.
10 years from now if there's another outbreak of Covid-19...there will be a completely different reaction and it'll be treated like the flu via private companies having secure contracts with the government to mass produce equipment like ventilators.
Don't forget what the young people said about HIV when it first started...I remember that too. They said Only GAY people get it...don't worry about it.
