The cure is worse than the disease.

  • IMO .... All these USA and Canadian government imposed business shutdowns over coronavirus (covid-19) is overreacting to the actual situation.
  • Most businesses have a sign indicating they will be closed for 2 weeks - no way can this go on for longer.
  • The government knows this and in 2 weeks will announce an improvement in the situation and allow business to open up again
 
This is no overreaction.
It’s the only way to stop the exponential growth.

If you have another solution to stop it then please, tell.

If I were a businessman with a family,
I’d rather shut down AND lose some money,
Than to potentially get sick AND give Covid to my family AND close business for health reason AND lose money.

If you’re a sadomasochist it’s your problem.

The probability is lower in the second case,
But with an exponential growth and the numbers of transactions you end up quite certain to get the worst outcome.

Just go into UK if you don’t want shut downs.

2 weeks is not enough.
It’s the incubation period.

It’s 4 weeks quarantine period.
It’s likely to be prolonged in france.

From 2 to 4 weeks.

Because if you’re home,
You have nothing within 2 weeks,
Then it’s fine you should be able to normalize.

But if you’re in fact COVID positive,
Then you might have contaminated someone,
This guy is going to get COVID the 3rd or 4th week.

So if everyone normalize after 2 weeks,
Then rebelotte. Here we go again.

There have been reinfected cases.

Also the state should be testing more,
And move into quarantine the earliest possible.

All the people who were infected between day 1 and day 14 from asymptomatic carriers suddenly start spreading it again. This is why they are recommending at least 4 weeks of social isolation. Probably more if cases continue to spread. The social distancing policy will only reduce once new cases dwindle down to some insignificant number.

After two weeks, you get tested for the antibodies for the virus. If you have them, you had the thing and are now immune until it mutates. If you don't have the antibodies, you lick someone's nose who you know has it, go back into isolation, and sweat it out. Either that or you stay holed-up in your cave for a year until they come up with a vaccine so you can be protected.
 
I do wonder at the accuracy of anything we hear out of China. If they're really not experiencing a second wave of infections, then we should be asking why not?

As far as the OP, if you insist that everyone be a hyper rational AI about this you're entirely missing the point. The politicians are doing what their electorate wants, as evidenced by the fact that the politicians who took early, decisive action are being praised by their voters and the ones who tried to minimize it are being punished. Given that at least here in the U.S. we're still mostly a democracy, your distinct minority opinion that this is an over reaction is absolutely meaningless as it should be.

The bottom line is that no-one knows if you're right or the folks being cautious are right. Since they're all doctors and you're a random dude on an internet forum, we could just ignore you but let's say you and the experts have an equal chance of being right. If that's the case, the vast majority of us would say to err on the side of caution and take our lumps on the economic impact. Again, we're a democracy so we get to do that. You want to go find a COVID ward and start licking the floor have at it, you just don't get to prioritize your wealth over our health if the majority of us have different priorities.
