The coronavirus

there is only one question here: will the strong hands sell?

will the markets ignore the bearish news?

in a bull the market just ignores bad news: the market may spike 7000-1000 dow points....

and then say:'wait a minute was there not some virus which will cut global gdp growth by 70%.....' and then reverse and fall 50%.....

have I not seen this happen....of course I have.

Not to discount the possibility of a new age pandemic but the medical resources in 1918 vs. today are apples and oranges. I doubt the death rate for the spanish flu would have been as high if it happened today.

What will eventually get us is some weaponized virus either accidentally or purposely released.

Agree. Malnutrition was pretty common back in 1918 so that would add to the mortality rate. People are pretty well fed today.

Whistleblower in China claims (on Jan 23rd) that there were 90,000 cases of coronavirus in Wuhan. About 100 times more than reported officially. Now the question is, is the mortality rate still 3% or are they lying about the number of deaths too? 90k infected would mean 2700 dead, but there is only 107 reported dead right now. So if this is true, the mortality rate is either really 1/10th of 1% or there are another 2600 dead that are being hidden.

Well, we just jumped into the twilight zone.

Now, a respected epidemiologist who recently caught flack for claiming in a twitter threat that the virus appeared to be much more contagious than initially believed is pointing out irregularities in the virus's genome that suggests it might have been genetically engineered for the purposes of a weapon, and not just any weapon but the deadliest one of all.

In "Uncanny similarity of unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV spike protein to HIV-1 gp120 and Gag", Indian researchers are baffled by segments of the virus's RNA that have no relation to other coronaviruses like SARS, and instead appear to be closer to HIV. The virus even responds to treatment by HIV medications.
