The Bush Family - An American Dynasty

Quote from AK Forty Seven:

Unproven accusations made more then 40 years after the mans death when he cant defend himself

It figues that you would defend a sexual predator, given your long history of racism and spreading hate.

Kennedy saved America and the world from a potential tragedy by his handling of the Cuban crisis. Can you imagine what would happen today with one of our "conservative" leaders. GW - war, McCain - war, Romney - War...no peace...no war...ahhh. And I'd hate to think about how a tea party president would handle a crisis like Kennedy did. It would be a disaster.
Kennedy is a true hero and a great president.
jfk simply got lucky with his handling of the CMC.

As usual our intelligence completely underestimated the readiness of our adversaries.
In early 1992, it was confirmed that Soviet forces in Cuba had, by the time the crisis broke, received tactical nuclear warheads for their artillery rockets and Il-28 bombers.[74] Castro stated that he would have recommended their use if the US invaded despite knowing Cuba would be destroyed.[74]

Arguably the most dangerous moment in the crisis was only recognized during the Cuban Missile Crisis Havana conference in October 2002. Attended by many of the veterans of the crisis, they all learned that on October 26, 1962 the USS Beale had tracked and dropped signaling depth charges (the size of hand grenades) on the B-59, a Soviet Project 641 (NATO designation Foxtrot) submarine which, unknown to the US, was armed with a 15 kiloton nuclear torpedo. Running out of air, the Soviet submarine was surrounded by American warships and desperately needed to surface. An argument broke out among three officers on the B-59, including submarine captain Valentin Savitsky, political officer Ivan Semonovich Maslennikov, and Deputy brigade commander Captain 2nd rank (US Navy Commander rank equivalent) Vasili Arkhipov. An exhausted Savitsky became furious and ordered that the nuclear torpedo on board be made combat ready. Accounts differ about whether Commander Arkhipov convinced Savitsky not to make the attack, or whether Savitsky himself finally concluded that the only reasonable choice left open to him was to come to the surface.[75]:303, 317 During the conference Robert McNamara stated that nuclear war had come much closer than people had thought. Thomas Blanton, director of the National Security Archive, said, "A guy called Vasili Arkhipov saved the world." Fifty years after the crisis, Graham Allison wrote:

Fifty years ago, the Cuban missile crisis brought the world to the brink of nuclear disaster. During the standoff, U.S. President John F. Kennedy thought the chance of escalation to war was "between 1 in 3 and even," and what we have learned in later decades has done nothing to lengthen those odds. We now know, for example, that in addition to nuclear-armed ballistic missiles, the Soviet Union had deployed 100 tactical nuclear weapons to Cuba, and the local Soviet commander there could have launched these weapons without additional codes or commands from Moscow. The U.S. air strike and invasion that were scheduled for the third week of the confrontation would likely have triggered a nuclear response against American ships and troops, and perhaps even Miami. The resulting war might have led to the deaths of 100 million Americans and over 100 million Russians.[76]

Quote from wildchild:

Well I would have to consider Kennedy on that list. He really planted the seeds for Vietnam and how can we forget the Bay of Pigs invasion. Lets be honest, Kennedy has gotten a free pass.
Don't forget the Berlin wall. Kennedy lost eastern Europe.

Japan recently held memorials for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We would be holding memorials for US cities if not for JFK.Great Great President

The Soviets never dared even make the threat when Ike was President. JFK was soft and didn't scare anyone and the Soviets pushed him around. Lets not re-write history.

Kennedy chickened out of the Bay of Pigs in the middle of the operation and Castro captured the invaders. Ike never would have done that.

This weakness gave the Soviets the plan to put missiles in Cuba to defend Cuba.
How did Kennedy solve the Missile crises, by promising to remove US missiles from Turkey.

You don't know what Ike would or would not of done and you do not know what went on with the soviets and their plan. Total right wing radio fiction, pathetic.

You guys need to go listen to the audio tapes from the Kennedy white house. You will learn how a great president listens, asks questions and makes the righ decisions. Kennedy saved America with his leadership.

Holy shit, good find! I did not know that.

Edit to add: I'm referring to the incident in your quote with the Soviet sub, not the disaraging of our intel gathering....
