The Biden/Palin debate

Quote from Pa(b)st Prime:

What's he going to go after HER hard about? He's the guy who voted for Iraq, opposed the surge, voted for repeal of Glass-Stengel, voted for the bankruptcy bill. He'd better hope she doesn't go after HIM hard. Joe Biden isn't going to be on anyone's list of great American senators.

While the left spends time complaining McCain's pick of Palin displays poor judgment I find Obama's selection of Biden way more bizarre. On some of Biden's most important votes in the last decade he's voted WITH McCain and contrary to Obama's stated positions. While McCain picked Palin to shore up his base, Obama cynically picked Biden to move away from his base.

Well I guess having someone who can disagree with you and tell it to your face nearby is a novel concept for someone who got used to Bush's "yes men" style of governing. Joe Biden has considerable foreign policy experience even greater than John McCain. Most people would agree the question of whether their bank will be there tomorrow is more important than spreading democracy in the middle east. And on the question of economy John McCain's "fundamentals of our economy are strong" says it all

Off the top of my head?

Biden: Governor Palin whats our country's most recently estimated GDP?

Biden: What does GDP refer to exactly?

Biden: What caused the credit crisis we are currently in?

Most importantly:

Biden: Governor, thank you for your response, but you haven't answered my question.

From the interviews I've seen this statement alone would throw her for a hell of a loop.

Of course this is assuming he knows any of this, which is assuming a lot I know. But thats what I would do. The whole "you voted for this and that" is kind of pointless because its misleading...on both sides of course.

You'll rarely hear me unduly criticize legislative records, Jon. I have no problem with Biden's votes, per se'. But his record hems him in. If he talks about "lack of regulation" then where was HE on the issue other than supporting de-regulation (which isn't the cause anyways). If he talks about "American's losing their homes" than where was HE when consumers needed a freind who wasn't in the pocket of Delaware banking in support of tougher bk standards.
Since I'm the record that a President Obama will NEVER live to finish his term I find Biden's take on issues greatly interesting.

You must be a real hit at parties.

As for how Biden will go after Palin, you know full well -- partisan bullshit aside -- that she is unqualified for the job, both in terms of her lack of exposure to the national (and international) scene and her education. And while some candidates in previous elections have shown themselves to be quick studies, there is nothing thus far to suggest that Palin will be among them. In any event, let's wait and see what happens in a couple of days. No doubt, she is poring over her What Does a Vice President Do? Cliff Notes as you read this post.

Who are you voting for?

I missed this prediction, Pabst. Can you clarify? You are saying that if he is elected President, he will be assassinated before the end of his term?

Quote from MarketMasher:

They better fix her up better than her performance in that Couric interview.

Or she'll end up sounding like she's answering the contestant question "How would you use your crown to bring peace to the world?"

Do keep in mind Palin's bar is r-e-a-a-a-a-a-l-y loooowww. It's like financial or homebuilder earnings. No matter how bad they are the stocks always end the day green.

A low bar might be a good thing for her personally, but for the country, not so good...

Joe Biden is stepping into a trap Thursday night. With all the political correctness nuts out there today, he will be walking thru a verbal minefield when he debates Palin. Joe Biden likes to talk in a free-wheeling style. I would think he will be forced to tone things way down. We'll see.
