The Bible isn't the original source of American law

The Bush Stamp
The Postal Service created a stamp with a picture of President Bush. The stamp was not sticking to envelopes. This enraged the President, who demanded a full investigation.

After a month of testing, a special Presidential commission presented the following findings:

1) The stamp is in perfect order.

2) There is nothing wrong with the applied adhesive.

3) People are spitting on the wrong side

well first of all, the "Ten Commandments" are not Christian, they are Jewish. pretty simple, don't kill somebody, don't screw another man's wife, and don't become a goddamned democrat and envy a republican's wealth.

And many jews have ignored those laws, but for the most part, those laws have kept the jews together for centuries while many governments all around them have risen and collapsed.

The greatest thing about the Ten Commandments, unlike the laws of the so called Christian Catholic Church is not what they say, but what they don't say. Most importantly, no problem with loaning money at interest. And that's why after generations, jews have passed down wealth, and Catholics are still bitching that it's not fair.

Having read many of piezoe's posts, I'm sure that "Christian" was just a slip of the tongue. Or pen.

Point is that the Constitution is about governance. That's why it's called a constitution: it details how the United States is to be constituted. That's why the 10C are not included. Any references to morality go back long before the 10C, which is one of primary arguments of the article.

the constitution aint nothing but a legal document written by lawyers to protect rich white landowners
compare the difference between the Declaration of Independence with the Constitution.

Neither of which have anything to do with the 10C.

OTOH, if you want to start a thread about the purpose of the Constitution . . .

it has to do with 10c because the topic was what is U.S. law based on? Most consider the constitution the supreme law.

whatever, I have a hell of a lot more respect for the Ten Commandments than I do the goddamned constitution. I'd rather be judged by the Rabbi than the Department of Justice.

Well, don't try to be correct. That will ruin this entire thread which depends for its lifeblood on denying the obvious!

the obvious is all the big laws are based on the Ten Commandments. You can debate which came first, the chicken or the egg. If it was so obvious that "Thou Shalt Not Kill" why did Moses have to tell it to anybody?

The story of the Torah is how we evolved into who we are. Somebody someday finally figured out that we are not going to get anywhere if we keep killing each other. And as the story gets passed down, it becomes law.

Let me ask you this. What is more natural for a man, to kill somebody who pisses you off or to not kill him? The Ten commandments are nothing more than laws telling you to do what doesn't come natural. So to say the laws are based on human nature is a little confused. The laws are there to keep you from doing what comes naturally.
