Fascinating guy. Years ago I was reading his autobiography and there was a passage about one the "panics" common in the late 1800's and early 1900's. After one of these "panics" he saw a bunch on old Civil war vets, some with canes, walking down to the telegraph office to buy stocks. They had seen it so many times, they knew to take advantage of the "panic".
