The bay of pigs was a black ops operation that went wrong.It was better for him to try overthrow the Cuban government that way then the way The powers that be tried to overthrow Vietnam or the way Bush overthrew the Iraqi government and the mess that we are left with now
The Cuban missile crisis could be looked at 2 ways.was it worth a nuclear war to take over Cuba?Kennedy cared about his country and his people and somewhat backed down in a game of chicken.Khrushchev was willing to bring his country and the world to WW3 ,thank god we didn't have a leader that stupid
Kennedy was not weak and Khrushchev knew he could have only pushed so far
Kennedy drew a line in the sand with the navel blockade and dared Khrushchev to cross it
Russia never would have even thought about putting missiles in Cuba but for a rookie president.
"a line in the sand"... Its like a schoolyard bully taking your lunchmoney but one day you manage to hide a nickel from the bully. So you pat yourself on the back and say you drew a line in the sand.
So. Russia brings a dozen missiles to Cuba gets Kennedy to never attack Cuba then the missiles leave. Now Russia can protect and base propaganda operations from its puppet Cuba, for 50 years with no military support. Seems like a brilliant chess move by the Russians.
In the end nothing changed except now we set a precedent for being bribed with missile for peace
