I wonder what Trump means when he says "be taking a lot of the things Bernie said and using them". He needs to be VERY specific. In any event, I think Trump is wasting his time. But one thing that Trump says about himself that seems true, is that he is adaptable.
Like I said, if Trump had been the right kind of asshole, this might have worked. I think he burned this bridge long ago. For example, Bernie Sanders supporters would rather put on braces and bite an electric fence rather than support a candidate that doesn't believe in HFGW.
It is an obvious miscalculation on many of his stances, but one that is easy to make.

But when it comes to her challenger, Bernie Sanders, Trump has taken a notably softer tone, praising the Vermont senator's rhetoric and encouraging him to launch a third-party bid.
"I think Bernie Sanders should run as an independent. I think he'd do great," Trump said at a victory rally in New York City Tuesday night, after sweeping five GOP contests in the Northeast.
The next morning, Trump said on MSNBC: "Bernie Sanders has a message that's interesting. I'm going to be taking a lot of the things Bernie said and using them."
Trump's advisers say these comments are a preview of more explicit overtures the campaign is ready to make to Sanders' supporters once the populist liberal exits the 2016 race. That strategy is based on the broad areas of overlap between voters attracted to Trump and those who have flocked to Sanders. Both have angrily denounced the political system as corrupt and expressed deep frustration that Washington is not helping ordinary people. They both oppose international trade deals, saying they hurt American jobs.
And, of course, targeting Sanders supporters could serve to undermine Clinton.
Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said the campaign is ready to bring into the fold anyone in the "feel the Bern" movement who is not inclined to support Clinton in the general election.
"You have two candidates in Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders which have reignited a group of people who have been disenfranchised and disappointed with the way Washington, D.C. and career politicians have run the country," Lewandowski said. "Bernie Sanders has large crowds — not as large as Mr. Trump's, but large crowds — and so there is a level of excitement there for people about his messaging and we will bring those people in."..."

If Trump loses this time around, which I think he is odds on to do by a wide margin against Clinton, he has learned an enourmous amount from the first go round.
Getting ahead of the game, but I see Trump 2020 as an Independent run. I wish the Bern did too, but I think he may hang up his boot after this run.
If Trump really wants to make America Great Again, the biggest gift he can give this country is to give it an honest to goodness, strong, people empowering third party that is taken seriously every four years. Then the line would blurr between Trump and Sanders, assuming Trump is the right kind of asshole.

I'm a true believer. The revolution is coming. Both the right-wing and the left-wing are sick of the establishment. Neither Trump nor Sanders supporters believe the politicians have their best interests in mind. Anyone who can't see this tsunami of revolt is purposely closing their eyes to it. That's usually because they are a part of the system that Americans are now revolting against.
So, would it be nice if Bernie Sanders makes an epic comeback—and it would have to be epic—and wins the Democratic primary? Yes! Is it necessary? No! This is the beginning of the revolt against the establishment, not the end...
