There are no poor people who live in the US. Do a little research into what being poor is all about. The American version of being poor means having 2 cars, a couple 50+ inch HDTVs, and weighting 250lbs or more. America has invented the obese poor person.
Of course one of the benefits of being 'poor' in the US is every year or two the media will overblow a news story about a white person doing something stupid, then in the midst of the riot you get to go on a shopping spree.
The dream isn't dead. It's just unattainable..."
We're apparently about to have a "rightest government". Do you think it will be any different, in terms of elites, overlords, high on the hog living, etc.?I believe it's less attainable than in prior generations.
Why? Because the Leftists want to tax the successful more-and-more. That is, even if you make upper middle-class wages.. your after-tax will be reduced so much that you'll have a difficult time to accumulate enough to feel successful.
The Leftist government wants everybody to be equal so that nobody seemingly has grounds to bitch... but still only "one notch above destitute" while the government elites remain the overlords and live high-on-the-hog of the work/efforts of the hoi polloi.

And since the poor really want to be poor, and the struggling really want to be struggling, there's no need to lend them a helping hand (according to conservatives), much less consider any means of ameliorating the problem.
Are you stating that the lack of education, hard work, and responsible adult decision has no correlation to the condition that many poor households find themselves in?
Your IQ is what? 80?
Actually many of those who are poor are choosing to be poor. Many drop out of school .. and that is a CHOICE. Those who finish high school have mediocre grades mostly. Thus they get crappy jobs. Then they CHOOSE to have kids they rarely can support.
As far as lending them a helping hand .. hello! Having helped a poor kid get into a charter school (because her Mom was too lazy) that required me to hand carry documents to the school on the kids behalf I know many get (1) Section 8 housing (2) utility subsidies or credits (3) Food stamps (4) Medicaid (5) free cell phones (6) free tutoring for kids. You have any idea what that can add up to per month .. and it's free to them.
