A foot basin is not a Muslim religious symbol. Muslims do not worship foot basins, they simply wash their feet in them. They are a practical accommodation to the needs of certain people who happen to be following their religious beliefs. Our society is full of similar accommodations to Christians, which is fine with me, and fine by the ACLU.
Separation of church and state is carefully defined to exclude federal funding of prayer facilities, mosques or churches, religious advocacy in public facilities, etc. Those restrictions apply to the Islamic faith exactly as they do to the Christian faith. There is no slippery slope here.
I find it ironic that some of you are so disrespectful of Muslims while simultaneously accusing them of disrespect for other religions. Perhaps you should not be so quick to abandon the moral high ground.
