The 10,000 hour rule.

I've been trading for about 6.5 years. I also have a day job so only trade the morning ES sessions. So I only logged about 6240 +/- hours(20 hours/week).

At this point, I've reached some consistency and learned to fully manage my risk. So risk first, profits later. Its been a long journey and their is more learning in this crazy trading career. Hopefully one day I will be able to say "I've made it"

I discovered the only infallible rule exactly that way. When you come to a Jack Hershey post, don't read it. Go immediately to the next non-Hershey post.

I found the same answer for PZ by reading three (count 'em) posts. this free's up a lot of time for doing lessor things.

I know people that can spend 20,000 hours at something and still be terrible. just because its in print doesn't mean its true. this guy is out to sell books for profit.

Quote from rmb623:

Anyone read Malcom Gladwell's book Outlier. In it he says that he has found proof that the people who are the most successful at what they do have logged at least 10,000 hours of practice before they become highly proficient at what they do. I was wondering if any successul traders can shed light on this statistic. Do you think you have spent at least 10,000 hours practicing before you could call yourself good? Also, it seems apparent that one would have to have an unusual financial circumstance where they could learn and practice for 10,000 hours before they become highly proficient. I would imagine most people dont get the opportunity to dedicate this much time because they have to pay the bill and eat and therefore do not become highly proficient at something.
