I once had an argument with my wife several years back over Christmas dinner. She suggested inviting a local family that could not afford a good holiday dinner into our house so that they could celebrate Christmas with us. After all, she argued well, that was the point of Christmas, was it not?

I was skeptical with inviting a family I didn't know, but would meet through an outreach center, into our private home. Not because I didn't want to provide a good meal and a nice Christmas for a needy family, but because I was inviting an unknown variable into my house, with my family and inside what I consider to be my protective zone.

We never did invite the family because I couldn't get myself to agree to it. However, we found out in church that next January that a couple two neighborhoods over had their house robbed while they were out one night at a soccer game. Turns out that they had invited a homeless couple into their house for the holidays - a couple the church had recommended them, and a few weeks later the guy came back to the house and robbed them.

I pointed it out to my wife as a lesson. It's not that we don't want to help our fellow man, it's just that we can't tell who needs helping and who is out to get us.

If they went to an un American soccer game they got exactly what they deserved. If they had attended an American baseball game I would have some sympathy.

These are the types of posts that will make you have to get a third username in order to get back on to people's radar.

sorry, I didn't realize this was a serious discussion. I thought the whole thread was a joke. Why don't you send a memo to the Air Force advising them how they can get their stealth bombers back on people's radar. As long as you and others keep treating republicans and democrats seriously, I am going to keep making fun of you.

How did my post about potentially inviting a hostile force inside your house come off as treating either republicans or democrats seriously?

Make fun of me all you like. But I see that your quest to be more coherent and organized is failing miserably.

Wasn't against you personally. And yes, I have been short the EUR for a while and now feel like I am probably very smart. Taking some time off and coming back under a new handle, I'm just struck by how during election season we all (not you) but me and others start taking sides based on extreme views. It's like 1984 all over again. As long as there are two extreme sides we have something to fight about. Moslems against Christians. Syrians against Americans. Republicans against Democrats. I could be more coherent I agree, but more organized is probably the problem. Once things get organized whatever it was you were fighting for gets lost in some kind of compomise.

I'm a huge believer in the individual, and his ability to hold his own against any other individual. Once they start organizing, we need to organize, and the whole thing goes eventually into war if we are lucky and complete domination if we take the easy route.

Peace my friend. I have posted enough for the day, and am quicky losing whatever coherence I started out with. That bull vs bear argument gets old after a while. We've been two sides arguing since the beginning of time. After a while you would hope that maybe there is a third or other optiion. But it just seems to go on and on. Oh well, that's what makes a market. Maybe two sides is what makes a society. As long as one side wants more and the other side wants less, life goes on, as long as you can keep it all balanced?

Illinois joining the gang to block refugees:

"Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, a Republican, announced earlier today in an emailed statement to reporters that his state is temporarily suspending acceptance of all refugees of the Syrian civil war, out of concern that Islamic State terrorists could slip in among the refugees.

“Our nation and our state have a shared history of providing safe haven for those displaced by conflict, but the news surrounding the Paris terror attacks reminds us of the all-too-real security threats facing America,” Rauner said the statement .

“We must find a way to balance our tradition as a state welcoming of refugees while ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. Therefore, the state of Illinois will temporarily suspend accepting new Syrian refugees and consider all of our legal options pending a full review of our country’s acceptance and security processes by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.”
