Is that so? Ever heard of the Marshall Plan, the one when the US "gifted" Europe billions for reconstruction after WW2? It required a reduction of interstate barriers, the dropping of many regulations and the buying US made products at a time when all of the Euro nations where trying to rebuild their national economies
"The largest recipient of Marshall Plan money was the United Kingdom (receiving about 50% of the total), but the enormous cost that Britain incurred through the "
Lend-Lease" scheme was not fully re-paid to the US until 2006." Wikipedia.
Just learn a thing or two before blabbering nonsense.
Yes I have learned a thing or two. I have learned not to ever trust what you write and I was right to do so. You paraphrased and omitted the most important part of the Marshall Plan out of context to make it look like that US somehow required something in return for the financial restructuring aid to Europe for rebuilding Europe. The entire description of the Marshall Plan from Wikipedia is the following:
"The
Marshall Plan (officially the
European Recovery Program,
ERP) was an American initiative passed in 1948 for foreign aid to
Western Europe.
The United States transferred over $13 billion (equivalent of about $114 billion[A] in 2020) in economic recovery programs to Western European economies after the end of World War II. Replacing an earlier proposal for a Morgenthau Plan, it operated for four years beginning on April 3, 1948.[1] The goals of the United States were to rebuild war-torn regions, remove trade barriers, modernize industry, improve European prosperity, and prevent the spread of communism.[2]
The Marshall Plan required a reduction of interstate barriers, a dropping of many regulations, and encouraged an increase in
productivity, as well as the adoption of modern business procedures.
[3]"
The text in blue above was what you removed. The removal of interstate barriers and the dropping of many regulations were necessary because it encouraged an increase in productivity and adoption of modern business procedures. It wasn't to solely benefit USA; it was to help Europe get ahead.
And not only that, Wikipedia went on further to describe the plan:
"The Marshall Plan aid was divided among the participant states roughly on a per capita basis. A larger amount was given to the major industrial powers, as the prevailing opinion was that their resuscitation was essential for the general European revival. Somewhat more aid per capita was also directed toward the Allied nations, with less for those that had been part of the Axis or remained neutral. The largest recipient of Marshall Plan money was the United Kingdom (receiving about 50% of the total), but the enormous cost that Britain incurred through the "
Lend-Lease" scheme was not fully re-paid to the US until 2006.
[4] The next highest contributions went to France (8%) and
West Germany (12%). Some eighteen European countries received Plan benefits.
[5] Although offered participation, the
Soviet Union refused Plan benefits, and also blocked benefits to
Eastern Bloc countries, such as
Hungary and
Poland.
[6] The United States provided similar aid programs in Asia, but they were not part of the Marshall Plan.[C]"
Again, the text in blue above is what you so conveniently omitted. US distributed the restructuring plan among all of the European nations, even including the former Axis power nations, the countries that fought against the United States during WWII. In other words, United States even gave money to its former enemies!! West Germany received even higher % than France, an allied nation!! And also notice United States also provided similar aid program in Asia. Am I hearing a "thanks" from China?? LOL
Nice spin but no, it didn't work. United States really did try to help Europe after WWII unlike China, who with its "One Belt One Road" initiative, forced countries that are located at geopolitically strategic points to take on unnecessary infrastructure projects built by China financed by loans by China that China knows are well beyond their ability to pay and then forced those countries to sell to China either their sovereign land or the infrastructure project that China built thus taking control of geopolitical chokepoints.
Btw, Sri Lanka wants its port back and Pakistan wants its train station back.
