Tesla to become a power company, competing with Pacific Gas & Electric

How does this work when peak demand is when I'm most likely to need the electricity for driving?

Winner winner.

My guess is that like vampire bats they are going to suck some blood out of each "commuter". There will be somewhere between 22 - 30 percent in transmission losses because of the back and forth. Normal power grid transmission losses are around 15 percent.

I can't imagine this being able to work without 480V AC fast charging stations being located everywhere.

so I pay for electricity & get a check for selling back to the grid? How does this work when peak demand is when I'm most likely to need the electricity for driving? How will the economics make sense if I'm not selling at a profit and is likelier better to just store the energy for future use?

This sounds like another one of Elon's whole lotta nothin'

So many thoughts he has

Total bullshit article "placed" by a corporate PR team. What a disgrace that a famed media organization like Reuters would prostitute itself like this.

No mention of the mile-long list of Musk's vaporware. Off the top of my head - the solar roof, the semi, the hyperloop, the Alien Dreadnought automated factory, the Gigfactory powered by solar panels, the $35k model 3, the fleet of one million fully autonomous self-driving robotaxis appreciating in value over time.

Alert readers will notice the increasing tie-ins with China. Expect much more of this going forward as Musk finds that doing "business" in China makes it much easier to avoid scrutiny, so long as he retains favor with the Emperor.

Also, I do not believe for a second that Tesla itself has made any kind of fundamental breakthrough in battery design or tech. Prove me wrong.

The solar roof is available, but most people don't want to get it because it costs about twice as much as putting solar panels on. The only thing that would make it worth it is if you actually needed a new roof.

A close friend of mine works for TSLA and has since about 2011. At the time I looked at whether to buy the stock. It was apparent that while the company could become very successful and nicely profitable in the luxury market, mass-market carmaking is a shitty business. Either way the growth was priced in, with no margin of safety.

That analysis has been shown to be pretty much spot-on in the decade since. What's changed is my quaint belief that the stock market has to reflect fundamental value on even longish time scales (5+ years).

Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan & CO have decided to make Tesla a success story. Period. Bank loans, underwriting of securities and bonds are the rainmakers.

Elon´s "side businesses" are a welcome additional revenue stream for Tier1.

What to complain about? Wall Street is happy.

Dude's not stupid, he's taking Donnie's side & opposing the shutdown to reel in the redhat rubes as he knows the lefties are already indoctrinated.

Yeah, let's all look down on Elon, since we've all built a multi-billion $ company and made the electric car a real industry. All his boondoggles and failed ideas - like a re-usable rocket (which sort of worked).
So what if not everything pans out? He tries a lot of shit. Some works, some doesn't.
But he's done more to move the lever than all the people on this board combined.

Does anybody reading have a telsa and had to have the battery pack replaced at the end of its life? (or personally know someone who has?)

I would like to know:
1. how much replacing the battery pack cost
2. how many years and miles/km the pack ran for

what lever's that? And whoa, way to take a risk at surmising that a bunch of traders whose purpose is to redistribute wealth to their pocket haven't "moved the lever".

The rumour is that a million mile battery will be announced at the Tesla battery day in June. It is a very rare internal combustion engine car that will last a million miles. There is a 2007 Toyota pickup on YouTube that managed it. Search YouTube for Tesla million mile battery. You tubers are way ahead of Wall Street when it comes to Tesla research.
