Elon Musk's $56bn Tesla pay deal voided by court

A judge in the US state of Delaware has annulled a $56bn (£44bn) pay deal awarded to Elon Musk in 2018 by the electric car company Tesla.

The lawsuit was filed by a shareholder who argued that it was an overpayment.

Judge Kathaleen McCormick ruled that the Tesla board's approval of the pay package was "deeply flawed."

In a post on X, formerly Twitter which he also owns, Mr Musk wrote, "Never incorporate your company in the state of Delaware". {Too funny, almost every major U.S. corporation CEO would disagree. He sounding more and more like our former Prez when he doesn't get his way.}

In her 200-page ruling, Judge McCormick called the compensation "an unfathomable sum" that was not fair to shareholders.

The compensation deal was the biggest ever in corporate history.

The ruling can be appealed to the Delaware Supreme Court.

Shares in Tesla are down more than 3% in extended trade. They have lost more than
20% of their value so far this year.

Meanwhile if stonk price keeps dropping he might have more tax losses to apply to his gains.

CA counties sue Tesla over alleged improper disposal of toxic waste: Reuters
by: Cameron Kiszla

Los Angeles, San Francisco and about two dozen other California counties are suing Tesla over the alleged mismanagement of hazardous materials.

The electric car company headed by Elon Musk was sued on Tuesday, according to a Reuters report.

“The counties accused Tesla of violating state unfair business and hazardous waste management laws by improperly labeling waste and sending the materials to landfills that cannot accept hazardous material,” Reuters reports. “California’s hazardous waste management law carries potential civil penalties as high as $70,000 per violation per day.”

So far, Tesla and Musk have not commented on the suit.

‘Abundance of information’ supports bias claims, EEOC says
Agency argues details demanded by Tesla unnecessary

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission urged a federal judge to keep an agency lawsuit alleging Elon Musk‘s Tesla Inc. fostered a racially hostile and abusive work environment for Black workers.

The federal civil rights agency sued Tesla in the US District Court for the Northern District of California in September, alleging widespread race-based harassment and retaliation against Black workers at the company’s Fremont, Calif., facility. Tesla responded seeking to dismiss the complaint in December, arguing the EEOC didn’t name a single victim or perpetrator.

The automaker said the EEOC hasn’t provided enough detail about the Black workers. However, ...

US EV sales reach record

REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson
Every sixth car sold in the U.S. in 2023 was electric or hybrid, up 25% from the previous year. Falling prices, greater choice, and more widely available infrastructure drove the increase. Tesla “played a significant role” in the price declines, the Energy Information Agency said, with an average Tesla costing 29% less between June 2022 and December 2023. Globally, sales of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles rose 31% in 2023, although that’s down from the 60% jump in 2022 from 2021. Demand may be slowing somewhat as consumers wait for better, cheaper models which will soon be available as the tech improves, Reuters reported.
