Tesla 2024

Yesterday I bought almost 60 TSLA $155 puts at $2.4-$2.5 selling above $3.30. That was after shorting 500@$157.00s and covering $154. It’s not big money to the gods on Elite but it’s honest cash. No money left to be made, that depends on Elon remaining stable? I wish I held my shorts, they’re going to print!

Edited: Tuesday and Wednesday you could feel a very sloppy buyer, WSB had a news piece that it was Cathy Wood gobbling up TSLA. I guessed it was and that’s why I exited my position.
Her buying more I would think is reason enough to short more.

Tesla Cybertruck Finger 'Guillotine' Is The Worst Kind Of Easter Egg
Someone is going to have a very bad day when their fingers get pinched in the Cybertruck's frunk.

Have you ever had the absolute pleasure of shutting your fingers in the door of your car? Or how about a hood falling onto them by accident (something I remember my dad warning me about as a kid whilst wrenching on his cars)? It's not a great feeling, but something you might not think about every day...except if you plan on owning a Tesla Cybertruck.

Get Fully Charged
The sharp edges on the Cybertruck look dangerous, but are they?

The Cybertruck can do some major damage to hot dogs and carrots, so be careful where you place your fingers.

Several YouTubers have had the same idea: take some sort of finger-shaped object, put it somewhere the Cybertruck might pinch it while closing the frunk, doors, or tailgate, and see what happens. And it turns out, Tesla may have accidentally made a Cyber "Guillotine" for your appendages.

The first, and perhaps most comprehensive test, comes from Out of Spec Reviews. A video posted to YouTube shows the truck being put under a series of tests with carrots, hot dogs, bananas, and other finger-like foods. The hope was that the Cybertruck would recognize that an object was being pinched and stop the door or frunk from closing automatically.

First up was a crush test for the front trunk. The Cybertruck managed to close and wedge a carrot in the frunk when approached front and center, but it was able to be pulled out. This is similar to the Ford F-150 Lightning, where a carrot was placed in the Mega Power Frunk (yes, that's what it's actually called), but was unable to be fully removed until the F-150's frunk was fully opened.

However, things get a bit dicey depending on where the carrot (or finger) might be placed. When moving to the back of the frunk where it meets the a-pillar, the power-closing frunk absolutely annihilates the carrot, taking a huge chunk out of the carrot with the corner of the hood.

The same test was performed on the Rivian R1T. In Rivian's case, a thinner carrot was used and the hood immediately recognized the obstruction and opened back up without leaving a mark. To be fair—the Cybertruck faired better than the Rivian R1T when shutting something in the tailgate, but at least the R1T recognized something obstructing the rear of the frunk.

It's not clear exactly why the Cybertruck's frunk is able to close on a finger-like object like this, but if we had to guess, the motor measuring the load on the frunk opening and closing cannot detect the small change of force of the carrot due to the location of the fulcrum. Somehow, the Rivian can.

I know what you're thinking. Surely a hand would trigger the safety mechanism, right? I mean, it's not like someone would try this—oh, wait.

Another YouTuber decided that they would also try to shut their hand in the frunk. They first showed that the truck would immediately raise the frunk back up if it detected resistance when entering from the front. Next, they used a gloved hand at the side of the truck, and it was yet again detected. But when the YouTuber removed the glove, the Cybertruck closed directly on their fingers.

According to the YouTuber, it wasn't comfortable, but there was no blood or broken bones. They would not put their hands up higher, however, which is probably smart given the carrot results.

This has been a known issue with the Tesla Model X's falcon wing doors as well. As demonstrated in the Out of Spec YouTube video above, one side of the Model X's doors will still manage to take out a carrot with ease, as will sitting a finger on the roof closest to the hinge.

Out of Spec's video also tests how the carrot fares shutting in one of the Cybertruck's passenger doors and, unsurprisingly, it manages to shear the vegetable in two. The truck does have a mechanism to prevent the door from closing when it's just a tad propped, however, so that could end up saving someone's digits in the long run.

To be fair, the Cybertruck owner's manual does explicitly warn owners to make sure that "all hands and other objects are free of the powered frunk before closing it." But it's a bit sketchy that a sharp pinch zone did that much damage to a carrot. It feels like a waiting game before someone falls victim to the so-called Cyber Guillotine.

Researchers hail battery breakthrough

Researchers found that lithium-ion battery life can be extended by changing the charging pattern.
Batteries degrade over repeated charging cycles as charged particles pass through the membrane that separates the positive and negative electrodes. Conventional charging passes a steady current into the battery, but engineers tried using high-frequency pulses of current instead. The pulses distribute ion particles more evenly as they pass through the membrane, reducing stress and damage. Commercial batteries tested by researchers maintained at least 80% of their original capacity for twice as many charge cycles as they did with continuous charging.

Tesla’s biggest retail shareholder is voting against Elon Musk’s $55 billion package

.........

We previously reported on Koguan being frustrated with those governance issues. He recently said that “Tesla is a family business masquerading as a public company” – in reference to Musk doing whatever he wants.

.........
I don't disagree with that. I will vote for Musk's package but vote to remove a couple of board members.

:wtf: If you will vote for his pay package you are disagreeing with the main point of the story. I'm sure you have your reasons for doing so, but numero uno shareholder does not.

Elon has been trying to get that $55 billion package since months ago.

TSLA has been on the downtrend since July 2023.
Next support level 100.
Once it breaks the support level 100 decisively,
to get a small amount like $1 billion is going to be difficult.

Tesla spent the weekend cutting prices. Late Friday, the electric automaker cut prices in the US on its Model Y, Model X, and Model S vehicles by $2,000, and it slashed prices by nearly the same amount across all of its models in China. On Saturday, it also trimmed the cost of its Full Self-Driving driver assist software in the US from $12,000 to $8,000. The price cuts capped a tumultuous week for Tesla, in which it cut its global workforce by 10%, made moves to restore Elon Musk’s gargantuan pay package, and recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks. The company’s stock has fallen ~40% this year over concerns demand has fallen off a cliff.

The price wars continue, and no big surprise TSLA's stock price (and other manufacturers as well - got put disclaimer in because we can't be expected to stay on topic. No, no.) continues to tumble.

Tesla has announced aggressive price cuts in China and Germany, shortly after reducing prices in the United States, as the world’s largest maker of electric vehicles (EV) faces declining sales and growing competition in major markets.

On Sunday, the EV giant slashed the starting prices of four models sold in mainland China, its largest overseas market, by 14,000 yuan ($1,932). The Model Y, the company’s bestselling car in the country, now starts at its lowest -ever price of 249,900 yuan ($34,502).

In Germany, Tesla’s biggest market in Europe, the price of its Model 3 rear-wheel drive was also lowered by 2,000 euros ($2,132) to 40,990 euros ($43,707), according to its official website.

The first cuts were announced on Friday in the US, when Tesla reduced the prices of three of its five models. The prices of the Model Y, Model X and Model S were cut by $2,000 each, while those for the Model 3 and the Cybertruck remained unchanged.

The flurry of cuts comes during a tough time for Tesla. Its stock has plunged more than 40% year-to-date, after it reported a drop in quarterly deliveries for the first time in nearly four years and announced job cuts equivalent to more than 10% of its global staff.

On Saturday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he had postponed his planned trip to India, citing “very heavy” obligations at the company. He was due to arrive in the country this week for a visit that was expected to include a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and confirmation that Tesla will build a factory in the world’s most populous country.

China gets tougher
In China, the largest EV market in the world, Tesla’s price cuts are expected to exacerbate an existing price war in a highly competitive sector.

On Monday, Chinese EV maker Li Auto (LI), led by billionaire entrepreneur Li Xiang, responded by announcing it was cutting the prices of all four of its models with immediate effect. Its Li Mega, which it says is the world’s largest passenger EV, now sells for 30,000 yuan ($4,142) cheaper.

The American company was already facing stiff competition there.

Tesla was briefly dethroned by China’s BYD as the world’s bestselling EV brand in the fourth quarter of last year. Compared with Tesla, BYD’s cars are more affordable.

Its entry-level model sells in China for the equivalent of just below $10,000. In contrast, Tesla’s Model 3, its cheapest model, currently costs three times more at 231,900 yuan ($32,017) in China following Sunday’s price cut.

China’s EV price war started in October 2022, when Tesla cut prices to boost sales as consumers slashed spending in a slowing economy. Almost all major manufacturers, including makers of gasoline vehicles, followed suit, impacting the entire auto industry’s profit margins.

The competition continues unabated in 2024, with more than 30 major car makers announcing further price cuts.

On Friday, XPeng, the Guangzhou-based EV maker, said it would offer 500 million yuan ($69 million) worth of subsidies for buyers who snap up four of its models.

In March, BYD lowered the starting price of its most affordable EV, the Seagull hatchback, by 5% to 69,800 yuan ($9,670). Later that month, Xiaomi, the smartphone manufacturer, joined the EV race by launching its SU7 sedan to take on Tesla.
