"mystery and confusion" I suppose works just as good for the terrorists as a firm conclusion of who done it.
it breeds chaos and turmoil in the markets for one thing, as, having no culprit leaves a huge question mark for who is likely to be next and how the terrorists will come at them making it more difficult to defend against potential attacks.
I did read that the commuter train subways are especially vulnerable to terrorist attacks. therefore NY would certainly make a probable candidate.

I still have a hard time choking down the reason for Bush to destroy the nation of Iraq just because he didn't get Bin Laden.
now that his knee jerk reasoning for going to war with Iraq (WOMD!!!!!!!!!!!!) is falling apart it's fairly clear that the USA continues to make mistakes.
How many global mistakes can a single country make before they are seen as the aggressors and anti-life?

Bush and Spain are taking the wrong frakin approach. Engaging terrorists only makes them stronger and increases their power per attack due to the attention and response those attacks stimulate. Look at Spain,
millions of people demonstrating? come on. somewhere terrorists are applauding their own strikes.
remember, terrorists win 1/2 the battle by keeping the world in fear.
the only way to deal with them is continue to hunt them behind the scenes quietly, and on the surface ignore them and cope like you would do with a bad hurricane or a flood or earthquake that kills people.
the truth is, terrorism is all around us, countless unsolved murders, rapes, drug dealing, theft, other violent crime, corporate fraud, you name it, it can all be seen as rooted in "terrorism."
point being: there is no way to win against it nor to root it out like Bush is trying to do.
every time a rich person takes advantage of a poor person that is a terrorist strike - financially.
look how many more people in Iraq and Afgahnistan died and got wounded (and continue to) due to the USA's "rid the world of 'Evil'" campaign.
It may not seem just but you simply cannot call a terrorist strike like 9/11 and now Madrid a "war."
Well, the world will just have to learn apparently the hard way that you can
never win against terrorists.
