Terrorism. Is there anything to be done ?

For as far as I remember I know of two cases where this happened in the US. And in both cases the government turned out to be the winner.

Do you think the US government is not (or less) tyrannical due to the fact that Americans have arms? If you need arms to have a bit of freedom and democracy there is clearly something wrong in the country where you live.

The fact that we don't have tyrannical government is a result of a well armed citizenry. Two cases? We have cases almost everyday. We are constantly fighting against the government to keep our arms free. That's the first fight. As long as we are fighting peace ensues. Our founders observed what happened in other countries and had the foresight to see it would happen in the United States if we didn't fight for every freedom we enjoy. Our second amendment is the red line no government may cross. The fight is much more civilized when the fight is over an accepted freedom. Once that freedom is gone anything could and will happen and it won't be civilized. That is why our guns are so important to all peace loving citizens. Plus, we just like guns, it's part of our recent culture and we have no desire to end up like Europe. We are much newer and have the advantage of never making and being bound by the same mistakes older outdated cultures still cling to.

And how did Europe end up? I am curious to know as I live there.

For me the US is no option at all to live. So maybe on both sides people do not know the full story. In news you only hear about the extremes, not about the real life. We see regularly policemen killing blacks in the US, and in the US apparently everybody thinks that entire Europe is invaded my muslims. At this moment only the UK has major problems.

An example to show how things can get out of proportion: I am natively from Belgium. In Belgium 60% speaks dutch, and 40% speak french.
Because if the differences in mentality between the two communities there are always political fights going on between them in parliament. One day a man took an air rifle (so not really a decent gun) and his picture appeared in the newspapers. In the US people thought that there was a civil war going on in Belgium. That was what they concluded. Apparently in Belgium people were killing each other in fights. Reality was that there was never a civil war and the man with the air rifle didn't even shoot 1 time. I don't think there as ever a deadly victim in this fights between the two communities.

In the US people thought that there was a civil war going on in Belgium. That was what they concluded. Apparently in Belgium people were killing each other in fights. Reality was that there was never a civil war and the man with the air rifle didn't even shoot 1 time. I don't think there as ever a deadly victim in this fights between the two communities.

I hate to burst your bubble, but no one in the US heard about this and if they did, they didn't give it a second thought unless they were Belgian.

Wrong again. Only a few countries like Poland do not have major problems.

I suppose we could quibble about what is major but when you have hundreds or thousands of women getting assaulted, terrorist attacks, no-go zones, public services overwhelmed, etc, you have a major problem.

Police: Suspects in Manchester bombing freed without charge

LONDON (AP) — All the suspects arrested over last month's Manchester concert bombing have been released without charge, British police said Sunday, acknowledging that detectives are still not sure whether the attacker had accomplices.

Salman Abedi, a Briton of Libyan heritage, detonated a knapsack bomb as crowds were leaving an Ariana Grande concert on May 22, killing 22 people and himself.

Shortly after the attack, police said they had rounded up members of Abedi's network. But Greater Manchester Police said Sunday that all 22 people arrested on suspicion of terrorism offenses have now been released without charge.

Russ Jackson, head of counterterrorism policing for northwest England, said police believe Abedi assembled the bomb himself, but it's unclear "whether he acted alone in obtaining the materials for the device ... and whether others knew or were complicit in the storage of materials knowing what was being planned."

Jackson said some of those arrested had offered "accounts which explain innocent contact with Abedi." He said risk to the public had been considered before suspects were released.

Suspects arrested under terrorism laws can be held for up to 14 days before they must be charged or released.

I agree that in Europe politicians should do more to stop the madness. I try to see problems always in an objective way. Patriotism will never stop me to have an own opinion, unlike Americans.

I agree, it is a war and should be threated as a war. No mercy, at the least suspicion kill them and deportation of the rest of the family. I am already happy that most of these terrorist are killed nowadays, and the public opinion is supporting these killings.
