People born into money and power start out with their own dreams and ambitions as I'm sure Ted did. Ted probably told his mom he would like to be a bartender or pastry chef.

Through the formative years Mom amd son fought over this issue.

Mother got her way, "I'll CUT YOU out of the will" she threatened.
Ted went into politics (paybacks a bitch mother!!) and ate cake and drank.
