technical analysis

Of course, yet still most here use 50 year old stuff that stopped working 20 years ago...but if it was as easy as feeding price and volume data into an ML or AI model professional shops would not shell out millions to purchase alternative data.
What if you're using loss functions and spreads of similar, or regressions, indexation, vols and inter-commodity market data analyses? Is that TA? It's the same shit as far as I'm concerned, just a lot more sophisticated.

You can't make a dime without using TA unless you blindly buy and hold or have inside information. The most successful fund ever was heavy into TA. I am a purest so would go so far to say that there is ONLY TA and news and earnings reports are irrelevant. They only serve to fullfil the TA. I believe the Renaissance fund had the same philosophy where they flat out ignored news and earnings reports.

You use TA to trade options?

%%
WE will guess , since we dont run all the hedge funds:caution::caution:
Plenty of profitable companies dont really use TA much . Even WMT used to ad ''always the low price LOL'' Not anymore:D:D
But TA being the study of price + volume ; so no way would any not use TA.
Cash metals dealer publishes his prices [on paper]+ makes most his money on like bid ask, cash copper ............+ such. So its different from many hedge funds or mutual funds or insurance co or banks use of price + volume.
Let's ask @taowave, @destriero, @newwurldmn if they and their firms use TA.

What do hedge funds think of technical analysis?
Hello eleanorK80,

You will have to ask people that work at Hedge Fund.

Noone at ET website works for a Hedge Fund. Even if someone worked at a Hedge Fund and knew the good or bad with Technical Analysis AND was an active member on ET website/forum, they would NEVER in a Million years give you a answer to your question.

For example, if I worked at Hedge Fund and made a million dollars trading in a year, I would just lie to you and say Technical Analysis is the best way to make money as a day trader, and convince others Technical Analysis is the Holy Grail.

After lying to you, I would go trade what really makes money. Or I can lie to you say Technical Analysis is trash, then go personally trade Technical Analysis.

All in all, you are searching for the truth in trading, amongst a bunch crack head traders. We are all just talking and playing around here searching for our next drug fix.

In other words, noone is going to ever give you the CORRECT answer to trading. You have to search in the grass for your own diamond.
